Singing the alphabet helps my nearly 3 y.o learn the order of the letters, we also try to play word games especially good for car journeys, so that she can guess the first letter of things we may see out of the window.

We also read an extraordinary amount of books, the first readers are great as they ask them to identify words with pictures after the story.

Spot letters out and about to bring them into the everyday. Plus starting with the letters in their name gets their interest

Singing the alphabet can help. Alphabet picture posters and card games based on the alphabet are also beneficial.

I think the best way to teach is to go with your childs lead and interests. For example my son really wanted to learn to write them so I have been teaching him as he learns to trace them.

Tweeted using @hippy_chick42 and the best way to teach the alphabet is to start with their name and then progress on to the alphabet song. I’ve also recently downloaded a really good book on the iPad, which features Clever Cat and Hairy Hat Man etc. My son even though he is only two loves interacting with the book and listening to the individual letter songs.

Hi, I follow and have tweeted on twitter as @solarsangel. An excellent easy and simple way of helping children to learn the alphabet, is to make the letter shapes out of play doh, pipe-cleaners, finger paint etc – so they have lots of fun, but are learning too!

Sesame Street always used to be a good teaching program when mine were little. We also used to read over and over again the alphabet books available. Also make cards with letters of the alphabet on and get the children to draw a picture to correspond with the letter, for example on the B card draw ball. Keep the drawings simple for the children. Also use magazines/comics/catalogues and let the children cut out a picture to correspond with the letters is a great way of learning.
