Helping Little ones get better

We have all been run down and ill with coughs and colds recently and are just about starting to feel a little better. I feel most for Izebella who unlike her big brother and sister cannot blow her nose nor tell me what hurts or how she is feeling. When young children are unwell all a parent wants to do is make them better. It’s good to get the best advice and get some helpful products along the way.
I received a box full of remedies and helpful products at the perfect time.

As you can see there is a mixed selection of products from different brands.
The first product is a Deep Freeze Cold Patch costing £1.55 for a single patch or 4 for £5.10:

The freeze patches are very handy to keep in a cupboard with your first aid box as you never know when an accident will happen. It contains menthol, aloe vera and water in a hydrogel layer which slowly evaporates to produce prolonged cooling relief for up to three hours. The slim patch stays in place simply and easily and can be worn under clothing. It also provides effective relief from muscular aches and pains and is particularly useful for swollen ankles, a common pregnancy. Although these are probably not suitable for younger babies and children, they will come in useful fory older children and especially in Summer when playing out, riding bikes etc as accidents always happen.

Dentinox
Dentinox is a leading brand of products for babies. They sell a wide range of products for baby ailments such as colic drops, Cradle cap treatment and the two products I received – Teething gel £2.30 and Eye wipes £3.49.

The eye wipes come in a pack of 12. Each wipe is individually wrapped. The wipes can be used from birth and help to remove sticky residue. They gently cleanse the eyelids and lashes and I found them very useful for little Izebellas cold as her eyes seemed to water and become a little sticky in the mornings.

Every parent dreads teething troubles with dribbling and bright red cheeks you just can’t help feeling for our poor babas. Dentinox teething gel can be applied every 20 minutes if required. It contains a mild antiseptic and works quickly to soothe baby gums.

Snufflebabe is an essential cupboard product for parents of babies and young children.
Vicks vapour run is far too strong for young children and Snufflebabe works the same but is much milder and far more suitable.

Snufflebabe can be used on Babies aged 3 month and over. It contains a combination of soothing, natural eucalyptus and thyme oil with menthol to clear even the stuffiest of noses.
It has really helped all my children at night time when there noses are blocked. As Izebella is still in my room I simply keep the little tub under her cot whilst she is unwell and apply to her chest and clothes when needed through the night. Snufflebabe will cost you approximately £2.49 and one small tub will last a long time.
I am attaching some study notes which I was sent which relates to Snufflebabe and sleepless nights in babies and young children caused by stuffy noses. It’s useful to read and contains lots of facts. Feel free to use if you wish.

STUFFY HEADS AND RUNNY NOSES NEED SNUFFLEBABE

Baby snuffles and blocked noses cause sleepless nights for more than half of young children and their mothers. Very young children have no way of clearing their blocked and stuffy noses – and now a new study, conducted on behalf of the child congestion experts at Snufflebabe among 11001 mothers of children under three years has revealed how difficult the problem is for both little ones and parents alike.

A staggering one in two mums (50.73%) said the snuffles stopped their child getting a good night’s sleep which in turn kept mum awake.

Baby snuffles and a blocked noses are common in young babies and little ones and it is of no surprise that when they cant breathe through their nose, they quickly become upset if the phlegm and blocked sinuses are severe enough to affect their ability to breathe easily.

But Snufflebabe’s study showed that the problem equally affects toddlers’ sleeping patterns. More than half (55.97%) of two to three year olds have difficulties sleeping because of a stuffy nose according to their mums.

For the vast majority of little ones (84.05%) the most common symptom when it comes to the ‘sniffles’ is a blocked nose and being unable to breathe easily. Other signs were:
• Runny nose (43.01%)
• Catarrh or thick congestion (25.09%)
• Sore skin around the nostrils (18.82%)
• Stuffy head (15.95%)
• Dry mouth (12.72%)

Older youngsters were more likely to suffer a runny nose – half (50.76%) of two and three year olds compared to one in four (26.58%) of under one year olds.

Baby snuffles are usually due to the normal mucus that may collect in a little one’s nose. They are not caused by colds or infections – although an infection can make things worse. A little one who just has snuffles will be otherwise well, but may snort when breathing. However, feeding can sometimes become difficult if an infant cannot breathe very well through his or her nose.
A blocked nose at bedtime is particularly unpleasant for under three year olds as they are unable to blow their own noses. And it can happen quite frequently. The study showed that one in four children(28.49%) had a blocked or runny nose that kept them awake at night once a month and one in 12 suffered every week.

Decongestants such as Snufflebabe Vapour Rub can help gently clear a blocked nose, allowing a little one to breathe more freely and so help them sleep more easily.
