Takeaway.com

The cold weather and dark nights are drawing in. When you feel like a take away, the last thing you want to be doing is venturing outside in the cold.

Takeaway.com offer online ordering from a choice of restaurants close to your home.

I was given a voucher code to try the service out. I have used similar online take away services previously so was fairly familiar with how it all works.

Takeaway.com is mobile friendly and there is also an app. For my first try I used my laptop. On loading up the website I first had to input my postcode and the search bought up 29 restaurants that deliver to my postcode.

These restaurants can then be filtered into specific cuisines such as Chinese, Indian, Turkish etc. Plus further filters of distance, reviews, popularity and other options.
Many of the restaurants that appeared in my search were completely new to me. I chose Peritos
Which is a Portuguese restaurant selling Peri peri chicken dishes amongst other selections.

The selection was huge and it took me a while to decide what I wanted. Eventually deciding on a steak special mix which consisted of succulent Peri Peri chicken breast, lamb chops and a choice of sides and sauces.

I found the ordering process very simple, so easy to use and I could even pay with paypal which makes me feel much more secure when ordering as I know i could easily get a refund should anything go wrong. There is of course other payment options such as debit cards. Once the order was placed an email arrived in my inbox telling me my order was successful. The email came with a link which I could click through to see an approximate time when my order would arrive. My order was placed at 7.30 and the website recommends waiting at least 60 minutes before phoning the restaurant.

My food arrived at around 8.10pm that’s just 40 minutes and this particular restaurant is about 3 miles away. Add to that, my street is tucked back and can be difficult to find even with sat nav so 40 minutes is not too long at all.

The food arrived in several reusable plastic trays with the fries wrapped in paper. The main meal of chicken and chops was really big portion wise and included a mixture of onions and mushrooms in sauce.

I also ordered a tub of coleslaw with my meal and was expecting one of those small polystyrene cups, instead I got this large tray.

I really enjoyed my food. The meat was full of flavour and cooked just right, my chips seasoned with Peri Peri and the coleslaw very fresh.

The place I chose to order my food was on the expensive side but the food itself was spot on. There are 28 other restaurants on Takeaway.com to choose from, all selling different things and all different prices. The amount of restaurant choice will obviously vary throughout different areas and may be more limited for the more remote places. It’s a very easy service to use and certainly takes the hassle out of cooking and preparing for the odd night now and then.

it is a great service, no need to go out and no need to have menus for every restaurant in the area have to say we have used it again since doing our review.

I found a lot of restaurants could not be found on similar on line take away sites such as Eat Now. So it made a nice change having something different.
