I first came across these snacks at the Blog on MSI conference back in May. They are made from green pea and rice mainly with flavours added. At first I was a little reluctant to try them because green peas are not a food that I really like. If your reading this thinking that your not a pea lover either then do not worry about trying these because they don’t taste like peas at all and are really addictive.
Calbee is the UK brand behind the Yushoi snacks, and the inspiration for them comes from Japan who sell similar types of snacks.
They look like crisp sticks with long stick like shapes. Some of them have a slight yellow or ever so slight greenish tint from the peas.
There are currently four flavours – lightly salted, soy and balsamic vinegar, salt and Szechaun pepper and (my favourite) Sweet chilli and lemon. Each one unique and tasty in its own way. They come in single serve bags 21g, multipack bags of 6 and a 105g sharing bag.
Each 21g serving bag contains less than 96 calories. They are also high in fibre and a source of protein. They are suitable for vegans and vegetarians and much healthier than other crisps whilst still tasting good.
Stockists include Tesco, co-op, selfridges and Ocado.
