Are you concerned that your home is sinking in value? Maybe you want to make sure that the repairs you are delaying are not having a big impact on your home. Either way, if you can, you need to look out for these major issues.
Your Home is Sinking
If you see a lot of wet soil around the perimeter of your home, then this may look like poor landscaping. That being said, it could also mean that you have drainage issues or water leaks. This could mean that you have some big repairs on the horizon. If you can, you should try and hire an architect, or a landscaper to come and look at the issue for you. They can then work with you to make sure that you are not putting your home at risk by avoiding any repairs.
Your Walls are Not Even
Older homes are known for coming with a lot of quirks, that being said, uneven walls should not be one of them. Uneven walls can be a sign that you have an issue with your foundation, and it is also a sign that a builder has tried to fix the issue but not succeeded. Some builders will simply try and pour a very thin level of concrete onto the floor to level out any foundation issues and although this will give you even floors, it will leave you with uneven walls.
You have Serious Roof Leaks
If you know that you have serious roof leaks, then it is a good idea for you to hire some roofers to look at it for you. If you can do this, then they will be able to tell you if you have to get your whole roof replaced and they can also talk with you about any potential issues that may stem from having an improperly maintained roof. If you leave your roof issues undealt with, then this can lead to pest infestations and even structural rot, which is the last thing that you need.
Your Floors feel Bouncy
Having a spring in your step can be a very good thing. If you know that the spring is coming from your floorboards however, then this can be a bit of an issue. Problems like this are often caused by termites and if they have made their way to your structural floor joints, then this will really impact the stability of your flooring. This is the last thing that you need, so it is vital that you try and assess issues like this if possible.
Your Home is Damp
If you have a musty smell in your home, then this isnβt a sign that you should be doing more cleaning. It can however be a sign that you have a mould issue. If you can, grab your toilet and then move it firmly. If you see that it rocks, then you could have water leaking underneath the surface and this is the last thing that you want to leave undealt with.
