My Golden Ticket

Published November 13, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Every child can be a big part of the Willy Wonka chocolate factory tour. It’s a great adventure that will make anyone feel rather hungry and craving a sweet treat.

Most children will be familiar with Roald Dahl Charlie and the Chocolate factory story but with this book they get to me part of it as all the books are personalised.

They also all come with unique features such as songs and names of candy bars. Each one being made into a unique different adventure.

The pages are full of colourful images and I was almost positive that the pages had some chocolate or vanilla aroma somehow infused into them, tho this is probably more down to us reading about chocolate.

A lovely book for that well behaved child costing £19.99 from Wonderbly.

Back to School – Write my Name

Published November 1, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Izebella is in reception class at school and is learning letters, including phonics, recognition and writing. It’s a long process for young children and can often be difficult to take it all in. One of the first things most children learn to write is their own name. Longer names such as Izebella can be more difficult than a name such as Ryan. It helps to practice as much as possibly at home but in a fun way and that’s where this new product comes in really useful.

This book is all about writing names, but it’s much more than just that. It comes gift boxed too and includes a special marker, stickers and a certificate.

The book begins with wavy lines, these are the first steps in writing, and getting a child used to following dotted lines. There are also shapes and individual letters at the back of the book.

The main part is Izebellas name. Her name is displayed on many pages, beginning with larger letters with dots to copy around.

Once the larger letters have been mastered, they start getting smaller, or letters get missed out for Izebella to add the letters herself, thus learning how to correctly write her name (and other letters too).

The pages are plastic coated so that the marker pen can be easily wiped off. Izebellas book is in cursive script as that is what her school uses. Manuscript is the other option.

Izebella was really surprised that the book was very similar to the work she does at school (I.e same script, letters, dots etc) so it’s good that children can be familiar with what’s inside.

Even a short ten minute practice per day can be really helpful when it comes to learning to read and write.

Write My Name book packages are personalised to the child, with names, photographs and a choice of cover colour. They cost £39.99, I think it’s the only writing practice book that she will need for now as it contains all the letters, numbers, shapes that she needs.

Sterling  Kids Books: non fiction

Published September 21, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Books always make great stocking filler ideas. Especially books like these.

Don’t get me wrong, my kids love a good story book too, but they have a small library full of them to read anytime they want. These three books take reading to the fun side. A selection of jokes, questions and quizzes. The sort of thing I would have liked when younger.

This or That Book 2: Is the follow on from the first This or That book. The colourful pages are full of would you rather? type questions. Some of which can get fairly annoying when you have a 13 year old constantly asking them for a good half hour. However I certainly get the appeal of this book. It’s fun and it reads like a school work book with lines and doodles across the pages.

 Now which would you rather?

Joke & Riddle Bonanza: No mini library would be complete without a good old joke book. You can probably imagine why I’d include this as a stocking filler too! Picture Christmas evening once the presents are ripped open, the turkey eaten and aunts and uncles who haven’t been seen for years are already on the whisky, yes out comes the joke book. And whether funny or not there is bound to be laughs.

This joke book is by Michael J Pellowski. There are a few themes sections as you browse through. Some jokes funny, some strange and others just downright silly. The jokes are all safe for kids with no rude or really vulgar ones.

Finally Quiz me: This book contains lots of multiple choice personality type quizzes. There are 10-16 questions in each one asking about seasons, food, crushes etc. At the end of each one, you add up your scores and read what it says about you and what you can do. It’s a good book for teenagers I think.

These books will be available over at Amazon and in book stores. All of them much less than £10 each. More information about these books and many more titles can be found at Sterling books.

Dragons Green book review

Published September 20, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Dragon’s Green is the first book in a thrilling magical new series, The Worldquake Sequence by bestselling Scarlett Thomas and it’s out in paperback in September. It’s sold really well so far and has had rave reviews from across the press, likening it to the work of J. K. Rowling, as well as from the people that really matter – kids! It’s for 8-12 year olds and its main character, Effie Truelove knows all about magic, time in her grandfather’s library has made sure of that. But there’s still much she has to learn. About the Otherworld. And about the Diberi, a secret organisation with plans to destroy the entire universe. Effie and her school-friends are the only ones who can stop them . . . and time is running out.

This is Dragon’s Green by author Scarlett Thomas.

A book which Jordanna is presently reading at home. It’s full of Magix and adventure. The main character Effie Truelove promises to keep her grandfathers magical books safe as well as defending the universe with her friends from a terrifying secret organisation known as Diberi.

The book is aimed at children ages 9-12 years. It is a fairly long read being just under 350 pages so it’s more than fine for children over 12 too and even adults who like their magic adventures.  There are no images or sketches in the book, it’s just text so it’s down to the reader to use their imagination with this one.

It’s a magical enchanted adventure that’s full of surprises throughout.

Available as both paperback £7.99 and Ebook £6.39 from book stores and Amazon.

Bloomsbury Publishing: Facts! One for every day of the year

Published September 7, 2017 by Bizzimummy
Can you imagine having a book, with something different wrote for each day of the year? Well this is that book.

Written by Tracey Turner and published by Bloomsbury books, this is a lovely book full of random, yet interesting, and informative facts for each day of the year. Each page brings a different colour and different images of animals, nature, jobs and the world.

I have been having a good browse through the book myself, prior to giving it to my darling children and many of these daily facts are quite surprising and a lot of things I never knew.

Who could of guessed; for just one example that a phobia of children and teenagers actually exists?

And more well known parts of our history of course!

Some of the facts are date specific or “On this date” such as the one above and celebrated dates like Halloween, Valentines and Christmas Day. These dates also have theme specific pages.

Of course being a book full of interesting facts and reading a bit like a calendar of diary, there was one specific date that I just had to flick through to, just to see what it said. Yes my birthday!  And it’s about toilets of all things. Oh well who knows, this one fact may one day prove to be useful in winning some sort of general knowledge quiz or game. It’s definitely a new bit of knowledge to me.

With the book came this very lovely collecton of postcards too.

Each postcard represents one month of the year along with one fact and images from the book.

This book would make an excellent Christmas gift/stocking filler. Not only are the facts really intriguing for both kids and adults alike, but the book begins on January 1st like many diaries and calendars meaning children can follow the facts the whole year through.

The book costs just £12.99 to buy from Amazon. I don’t always agree with book prices, but in this case I do. I could happily sit and read the facts each day myself.

It’s your story: From A-Z

Published September 6, 2017 by Bizzimummy

My darling Izebella is now part of her very own story in her brand new personalised book.

This book comes from It’s your story. They have many books and gifts to choose from, all of which can be personalised as a special gift for a child.

This particular book is really suited to Izebellas age. She’s almost five and started “big school” this week so will be learning her alphabet, letters, reading and writing soon. The book reads as an A-Z with each page being a different letter of the alphabet along with an image of something starting with that letter, like this.

The pages also have Izebellas face on as the character along with her name and a description or action. Her name is even mentioned in the text on the very back of the book.

She was very surprised when she came saw her new book and the fact that she is the main character with her picture.

These books make amazing personalised gifts that would make any child smile. The hardback version costs £20.00. All you need to do is give the child’s name and upload a clear headshot photograph. The book can also be purchased with just a name only without a photograph and also as a number version.

More than just a book! Themed book boxes; Book delights!

Published June 9, 2017 by Bizzimummy

I think all children love books, and even some adults too. The old classic tales never seem to fade out or get forgotten  like many of the more modern stories do.

Some books seem really magical but! Just imagine a book that is not only a book but a whole lot of other accessories and nice things based on that book. A package full of items based on a story that is also included.

Just like these!

These are just some  of the themed book boxes from Book delights and the boxes include well known titles such as Alice in Wonderland, famous five, Harry Potter plus many more.
This is the first time I have come across a themed box based on a book with the book included and I think it’s a lovely idea which will make a lovely gift.

For Izebella I have the Beatrix Potter box. This comes with all of these items.

This particular box would make a great birthday/Christmas gift for a young child. There is a notebook, coloured pencils, a money tin, bookmark, postcard, jigsaw and the surprise wrapped gift.

I really loved how one of the gifts was wrapped so nicely. Izebella couldn’t wait to see what was waiting inside the blue paper!

Yes it was the classic book itself, The tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. A book that has been around for many many years and is still enjoyed by by many children today.

The book boxes aren’t just for children either. They have book themed boxes for adults too which even includes an Alice in Wonderland box. The adult boxes are similar to the children’s boxes but have the addition of candles, tea bags and small jewellery items or similar which would not be suitable for a child.

Each box costs £26.00. The value of the items in each box will be worth more than the £26 if bought separately. I think these boxes would help to encourage a child to read the actual book as everything is themed towards the one book included.

The boxes can be purchased directly from Book Delights or from Etsy. You can get 10% off a box on the website using code bizzimummy10.

Ready Brek is going on a bear hunt (GIVEAWAY INCLUDED!)

Published May 27, 2017 by Bizzimummy

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is heading to breakfast tables nationwide thanks to a new promotion with Ready Brek. The promotion will begin this weekend and run throughout June and July.
Ready Brek will be inviting kids and families to create their very own bear hunt featuring fun activity ideas to try at home on their packs.

Ready Brek has been around for years and is full of good stuff including Calcium, Vitamin D, Protein and Fibre. It  is one of the UK’s most popular breakfast choices when it comes to serving up instant oat goodness.

We’re going on a bear hunt has also been around for many years with a selection of books, stories and animated programmes.

And of course bears and porridge are well known to work together as everyone remembers the story of Goldilocks and the three bears and all the porridge eating.

It is the start of a two week half term break for us. As the weather is surprisingly very good, we may as well make the most of it. So after a warm nutritious healthy bowl of ready break it’s time to get out and about on our own mini bear hunts!

Okay yes I know, the chances of seeing bears in Bolton are literally zero but there are plenty of other smaller creatures to spot up this way and have lots of fun whilst doing so and really just being outside in the sunshine rather than stuck on tablets inside.

We have a few parks close by which are great for walking around, looking at things, searching for certain plants or bugs and spotting squirrels and rabbits etc. As well as having fun on swings and slides.

                      GIVEAWAY

Ready brek are giving away a prize bundle which will consist of 2 boxes of Ready brek cereal and 2 new bear hunt books.

The books are – My adventures field guide this is a detailed guide to plants, bugs, small animals, birds and much more for those young explorers.

My Explorers Journal – This book works well with the field guide and allows young explorers to record their journeys. Write down and record things they spotted etc.

This giveaway will close on June 10th 2017. Prize as above consists of two books and boxes of ready brek cereal.

Drawing cartoons using letters!

Published May 4, 2017 by Bizzimummy

If you have ever wondered how to start drawing cartoons or figures then I recommend you get this book.

Drawing cartoons letter by letter” is just one book in the Christopher Hart kids books. Christopher Hart being the worlds best author of “how to draw books”.

The book looks more like a folder of pages rather than a regular book due to its Spring binding and tear out pages. The pages don’t need to be pulled out but can be if needed.

The only txt in this book (apart from the front page introductions) is the title of the drawing on the page. The rest are diagrams on how to draw each cartoon figure. Each figure starts with a letter of the alphabet as a base and is built up with lines and shapes to create a cartoon style character.

Here is one example from the book which Ryan did. It’s a robot which began with the letter A. As Ryan added lines and shapes a robot character was formed ready to colony in.

It makes drawing cartoons seem really easy. The pages follow the alphabet through with the use of both capital and small letters to start off the drawings.

When coloured in on our own paper it is difficult to tell that it all began with a letter. There are about 170 pages of cartoons to try in this book. Enough for all the family to have a go.

The book costs about £12 from most good book stores and Amazon currently has a few offers on from various sellers for much less.

Tokidoki by Simone Lengo

Published May 3, 2017 by Bizzimummy

TOKIDOKI is a lifestyle brand founded in 2003 by designer Simone Lego. Todoki has achieved a cult status around the world and they have a range of designer stationary and gift books. GMC is the new distributor of these products in the UK.

The products have a very Japanese Kawaii appeal to them even tho Todoki is headquartered in Los Angeles. Kawaii being lots of quirky cute fun characters assembled together and appearing on many products in Japan. The brand has collaborations with many high profile names including Marvel, hello kitty, new era, Fujitsu, x box and a fair few more.

There are currently 11 Tokidoki products available through the GMC group which include colouring books and  note book type products and we were sent a few of them which arrived in a Tokidoki book back as above.

My girls really like the products because some of the many characters look very similar to toys they already have such as shopkins, my little pony, tsum tsums, Num noms and others. The notebooks will always come in useful. I even have one myself as my current one is running out of space and they are quite necessary for blogging.

The colouring pads and books will certainly keep my kids busy as the pages have lots going on. One page is certainly a few hours worth but the end result will be quite pretty.

I don’t think they can be just limited to kids colouring books as I am sure many adults will enjoy colouring these books too. I believe things like this can help to reduce stress so I may just have to give them a go myself.

We also got a postcard colouring book where each page contains two postcards of identical images. One side in colour and the other to colour ourselves.

They can even be pulled out and posted too just like the real thing.

These products are probably aimed more towards girls than boys but Ryan seems very happy to also do some Todoki colouring too.

All Todoki items can be purchased directly from The GMC group and here is a price guide for each item.
