Make sure the turkey is cooked this Christmas

Published December 24, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Do you know how hot a turkey should be when it’s cooked? No me neither tho a bit of research tells me it’s 75-80C internal. If not cooked correctly or properly then Christmas dinner can soon turn into the stuff of nightmares.

The most accurate way to check the temperature of a turkey, any other meats or even cakes is by using a special food thermometer such as this handy gadget called thermapen.

Thermapens look simple but they don’t come cheap, retailing at around £65 each. They are however a one off purchase and it gives a slight peace of mind knowing that this can accurately read internal temperatures of food. Thus minimising the risk of food poisoning.

The device, which resembles a parked red Ferrari is ready to use straight out of the packet. The battery which is a AAA is already pre installed. There is a hidden settings menu but to be honest I doubt I’ll need to access this as it’s already set up to use.

When the metal thermometer prong is pulled out, this instantly starts the digital thermometer reading and when folded back up it turns it off.

The device will calculate the room temperature before even touching food. Touching the prong also calculates your body temperature so yes it’s a really clever device. To test the temperature of food, and turkey in particular the prong gets inserted into the the thickest part. The digital sensor will start to calculate the temperature inside the bird. Sometimes the display keeps changing but thats because the meat is still cooking inside.

It works inside fridges and freezers too to determine if it’s cool enough. There is a handy backlight on the device which automatically comes on if the device senses that there is not enough light.

It’s a small gadget with lots of uses and worth the investment for many years ahead.

Last minute gifts for the girls – Baby Born Bath

Published December 23, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Most little girls love Baby Born and my little girl is no exception. Just a few days ago she was delighted to receive an early present from Santa to use with her Baby Born doll.

Her very own Baby Born interactive bath tub. This is no plain normal bath tub that just gets filled with water, no this tub is lots of fun and has lots of extra features.

The tub lights up whilst Baby is bathing and even plays music. There are bubble sounds and laughter too and all sorts of other fun sounds. The water pump makes water flow from the shower head and then the foaming pump makes the water foam up more.

Bubbles can be added for lots of foamy fun and it also comes with a little duck friend too.

It’s all ready to go straight from the box and even came with batteries ready installed.

This costs approximately £39.99 from most good toy retailers. The Baby Born doll is a separate purchase but most standard size baby dolls will fit in the bath.

Last minute toys – Xtrem Bots

Published December 23, 2017 by Bizzimummy

If you haven’t bought that present for say a niece or nephew or even your own darling child then fear not as there is still time, approximately a day and a half of shopping left.

Today I am going to be featuring a few last minute ideas for the kids.

Starting with a present that has been popular for a fair few decades now. It’s a robot.

This is the Xtrem bot, it retails in Argos and Amazon at £29.99 and is also available from other stores. Kids who like their robotics and gadgets will love this guy. He talks and walks and can be programmed with a huge 50 Different actions at once.

He doesn’t just walk one way either like some other robots do. No he can walk forwards, backwards and even side to side, he also slides and even dances.

He does various facial expressions too. His language is quite limited to his own “robot” type language and the very smart remote has a really good range on it.

Xtrem bot is suitable for children 5 and over.

Christmas crafting with gel – a – peel

Published December 21, 2017 by Bizzimummy

My girls have once again been busy doing some crafting with another gel-a-peel set.

They were kindly supplied with many decorations just screaming out for a little bit of extra gel colour.

Gel-a-peel is like a colourful squeezy sage glue for children. It comes out like gel and then sets and dries. Using the tubes does take a bit of practice so that the gel doesn’t come out too fast. Most kits contain a few tubes of the coloured gel plus other small accessories.

My girls love using this stuff, it’s safe and non toxic and fairly mess free too.

Baby Annabell learns to swim

Published December 19, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Izebella is a big fan of Baby Annabell and was very excited to be trying out the latest “learn to swim” doll.

Baby Annabell learns to swim is a very clever doll and does exactly what her name suggests – she learns to swim.

She comes complete with an ever so cute baby swim costume and a pair of tiny little armbands and her own little towel.

She needs 3 AA batteries to get going, but if your anything like me at this time of year, then you’ll probably already have a fairly well stocked battery drawer.

Baby Annabell makes a few sounds too like giggling and coping like a real baby. She splashes whilst in a sit up position and then floats on her back whilst babbling away. She even kicks her legs whilst moving slowly in the water, just like a real baby learning to swim.

Sometimes the doll does get a little too full of water and becomes a little bit too heavy to swim. She has a special drain hole and just needs the water draining every now and again to get going again. Once out of the water she obviously needs draining again and drying off with her special towel.

She can go in the bath or a swimming pool meaning she makes a good little travel companion too.

Winter wonderland 2017

Published December 11, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Winter Wonderland has once again opened its doors at Event City in Manchester. The event is packed full of family rides, shows, a circus, stalls and various places to eat. And of course a visit to Santa’s grotto is a must too.

We went on Saturday for the 11am opening and although it was ram packed with people, we still had a really enjoyable time there.

The sessions are split into 4 hour time slots so you get a full 4 hours there per ticket. The queues looked huge but went down vertg quickly for us. Once in, all the rides and shows come included in the ticket price. Santa’s grotto visit is also included, but I paid extra for Izebellas gift and the photograph (which are quite expensive) I found the gift choice much better than last year; kids pick their own gift from Santa toy shop.

This year we actually got to see the circus show, which we missed on previous years. I’m so glad we did because some of the acts are really spectacular.

There are a few other shows to see too including rainbow and Frozen.

There are so many rides to go on. The queues were not so bad. There are rides to suit most ages from tots to adults.

The food is expensive but lots of choice. For larger families and groups it may be best to take own lunch.

Winter wonderland is open until January 1st but sessions are selling out fast. Tickets start at £20.50. Winter wonderland.

Forest feast Christmas collection

Published December 6, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Forest feast are home to tasty fruit and nut snacks and have recently launched a festive collection in time for Christmas.

These festive snack packs combine blends of both sweet and savoury ingredients together such as nuts, dried fruits and even bits of chocolate. These make lovely Xmas day nibbles for all the family.

If I’m being totally honest, I’m not usually a big lover of nuts or dried fruits, but I do make an exception around Christmas and these do taste incredibly good. The vanilla cashew, cranberry, chocolate, fruit and nut went down a treat. I would usually expect a mix like this to contain some sort of dried fruit that I don’t like such as raisins, currants, dates etc but no, it contained dried cranberries which are one of the very few dried fruits I actually like.

There are four festive varieties to choose from and each one costs £3.50 per bag.

Kids stocking fillers

Published December 5, 2017 by Bizzimummy

For last minute stocking fillers, HMV has some good deals on their selection of stocking fillers for kiddos. Their pop vinyl figures are great. If you’re not familiar with pop vinyl then this is what they look like.

It’s figures created from vinyl. Many well known characters exist as pop vinyl and they are really collectible. I have a few myself. Characters from movies, games, comic books, fairytales along with pop and rock stars, the list of pop vinyl characters is endless.

These are great for all ages too, both young and old collectors or just a favourite one off figure as a small gift.

The prices vary, usually starting at £10 upwards, however HMV have greatly reduced the price of a selected few. The popular figures sell out very quickly tho as I found out myself from past collections.

A letter from Santa

Published December 5, 2017 by Bizzimummy

When little Izebella came home from School last night, she was so happy to see a letter with her name on it. This letter came with an official North Pole stamp and was from the big guy – Father Christmas his self.

Father Christmas knows all about Izebella. He knows she lives in Bolton, a place that he likes to visit first when dropping the presents off, he even knows the name of Izebellas friend and what presents she wants this year. Izebella even got her own nice child certificate for being so good and has proudly made it onto Santa’s nice list.

Izebella can’t read the big letter herself as she can only read small books with bigger letters, so I read it to her and her little face lit up with delight.

The elves and Santa even sent Izebella a few activities to do before the big day.

Lots of things to make a colour in.

These special letters come straight from The Lapland mailroom. Each letter is made just for every individual child with names, places and wanted gifts. Santa knows everything.

Letters start from £8.95 each.
