Churchill’s retro tins for Christmas

Published November 30, 2017 by Bizzimummy

I love my tins from Churchill’s confectionery and especially so at this time of year. If you’re reading this and are not familiar with the Churchill’s brand then take a look at their website. The majority of their confectionery products come in special highly decorative tins which makes them more unique than the rest. Festive, flowers, Art Deco and fairground are just a few of the themes on the tins.

This Christmas we are going all retro on the tins, with a touch of the USA too. I am amazed at just how realistic these tins look.

These tins resemble retro American gas pumps. They look really authentic and if i didn’t know better, I would never guess there is confectionery inside them.

Not one, but two big bags of creamy English toffees all in golf wrapping. The toffees are delightful and the tins reusable. Once the toffees are gone they can be used to store other things or just put out on display.

These retro phone booths don’t have a load of wires or change inside, but instead are full of cookies.

These look fab placed on a kitchen unit or table as everyone asks what they are? No one suspects that cookies are inside. They even have an attached little retro phone too.

Plus many other features of old retro style phone booths like the coin slots, coin return and the phone maintenance door ar the bottom.

And of course the cookies taste lovely too.

All of these retro tins and many other themed tins from Churchill’s confectionery would make amazing unique and very festive gifts for anyone young or old this Christmas

Churchill’s products can be purchased from their online shop, their London store, Amazon and a selection of other stores across the UK.

Treat Factory

Published October 17, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Treat Factory is the place of childhood dreams. An absolute heaven for lovers of sweets and treats with an added retro look that will take you back to the times of sticky hands and faces. This amazing place is sure to put some smiles on faces small and large this Christmas.

Remember these?

Our very own pick n’ mix sweet shop in our own home. It comes with so many old style retro sweets, all of which get put into individual containers. It even comes with sweet bags and a sweet picker.

A selection of shaped lollies that remind me of big sugar dummies. We had the unicorn lollipop. I gave this to Izebella on her birthday and a week later she is still sucking on it.

Yes it’s sweet and sugary and not so healthy, but it’s a treat and not something I will be giving her all the time.

Izebella has an annoying habit of putting things in her mouth and chewing them, this includes small toys and pens/pencils. Well here are some pencils that she can munch on without me worrying too much.

Chewy candy pencils, in lots of yummy fruity flavours. Squishy and jelly like these went very quickly in this house.

Now everyone has heard or tried jelly bears. Those fruity little jelly sweets, shaped like little bears. Well I bet not everyone has seen a giant one like this.

This jelly bear is huge. It packs some weight too. My kids thought it was rather hilarious at how much this sweet weighed. Strawberry jelly on top with a white fluffy texture underneath.

He weighs a whopping 400g and is part of the “giant sweets” product selection. He certainly is not meant for one person to eat themselves (although many may try). He’s a tough cookie to cut too, knives won’t touch him, a pizza slicer is what’s required if the giant bear is to be shared. He’s not just big, he’s also very thick and juicy.

Treat factory products can be purchased online and from a variety of stores around the UK.

Brownies over Valentines weekend: Serious Treats

Published February 17, 2015 by Bizzimummy

Well I did not get a single card this Valentine’s Day. I know boo hoo get the tissues out. Oh well who needs a card when you can have a delicious box of tasty brownies delivered instead.

IMG_2388

This scrumptious tempting box coincidently arrived Valentines morning. It’s from Serious Treats who seem very serious about their delicious brownies. I received a lovely Lucky dip box containing a mouth watering selection of mixed brownie flavours.

IMG_2377

There are 4 individual flavours sold by Serious treats – Rich Choc, Peanut Butter, Salted Caramel and Peppermint. There is also a gluten free brownie variety. The brownies are made with Shipton Mill flour, free range eggs and Montezuma’s 73% cocoa solids.

IMG_2376

The brownies can be purchased in boxes of 6, 12, 20 costing £13.50 – £30.00. The smaller box being perfect for individuals and the larger probably better for parties, weddings and offices or if your feeling greedy then buy yourself a big box.

In my box I had 6 brownies in Peanut, Salted Caramel and Rich Choc, 2 of each variety. I’m not a mint lover so probably would not of fancied the peppermint one but everyone’s different. The brownies are big and chunky. Each one individually wrapped with a full description and ingredients. They are just delicious.

IMG_2378

Very chocolaty and crumbly and eating one makes me want another and then another. The Peanut butter one is just oozing with crunchy peanut flavour.
The salted caramel contains a thick layer of tempting salted caramel sauce.

And the Rich Choc brownie is their award winning brownie which has won a silver and two gold awards to date.

Processed with Moldiv

These delicious brownies are best served with a nice hot cup of tea, any time of the day, but perhaps best when the kiddies are fast asleep in bed so that mean old mummy does not have to share.

Buy the brownies from Serious Treats and a selection of stockists throughout Avon and Somerset.

Miss Marshmelllow

Published February 16, 2015 by Bizzimummy

Well Valentine’s Day came and went over weekend and I woke up Saturday morning feeling a little sorry for myself, not a single card, gift or planned night out. For me it was just the same as any other normal boring day or night.
Then a knock at the door and the postman bearing gifts. A little box with my name on it. The contents inside bringing a little smile to my face.

IMG_2362

Marshmellow and nougat all in the same box. I think this would brighten up anyone’s day.
My little box of goodies came from Miss Marshmellow who started making their marshmallows in 2011, closely followed by the nougat in 2013.

All of the products sold by Miss Marshmellow are made using only natural flavours.

IMG_2380

So over Valentines weekend, instead of having a romantic dinner i instead had the pleasure of trying out some delicious natural confectionery instead. I was sent over 2 bags of marshmellows in Fresh Raspberry and Coconut variety packs.

IMG_2381
Each bag of marshmellows contains approximately 10 pieces in the shape of cubes.

Processed with Moldiv

The flavours are really interesting as they are natural flavours and no artificial. The coconut tastes very mellow, soft melting coconut taste and the raspberry was really surprising. I was half expecting a raspberry flavour but instead I could taste actual raspberry juice and the marshmallow even has little raspberry pieces throughout it just like the fruit itself. Both flavours are really nice and the texture of them is really soft and fluffy just how marshmallows should be. These seem the perfect size and texture for heating over a camping stove too. The individual bags can be purchased for £3.00 each or they can be purchased in special combo packs.

I also have a slab of Salted Peanut nougat too.

IMG_2386
These nougat bars come gift wrapped like a little present with pretty little ribbons.
My Salted Peanut nougat comes made with real salted roast peanuts and honey.

IMG_2364-0
Nougat was something I loved as a child but find very hard to come by these days and especially in flavours such as this.
This nougat is both soft but chewy and packed full of sweet dreamy flavour. The nuts give it that extra bit of crunch. It’s a lovely much needed mummy treat.
The nougat costs £4 per bar and can be ordered directly from Miss Marshmellow. There are many other Marshmellow and nougat flavours to be seen. All the confectionary is made fresh to order. Postage and packaging is free of charge too. Miss Marshmellow also sells their gourmet selection of confectionery at food festivals and markets and a selection of shops which can be found on their website.

So if like me your feeling sad because you never got a Valentines card then why not treat yourself to some gourmet confectionery from Miss Marshmellow.

The Story behind Miss Marshmallow

Miss Marshmallow sent me over some useful info about how their story and business began. So I thought I would share it.

• They make Gourmet Marshmellows and Dorset Honey Nougat

• They call our marshmallows Marshmellows because they are like marshmallows…but mellower.
(mellower = richer, softer, smoother)
They thought that they needed their own name to distinguish them from the commercial ‘pink and
white ones’ – and that’s how Marshmellows were born.

• The Nougat is made with honey from Dorset, the county in which they live – hence Dorset Honey Nougat

• Their products are made by hand in a mostly rural Dorset area, in a kitchen rather than a factory, by Gavin & Jackie.

• They were inspired to start the business, Miss Marshmellow, while on honeymoon in Provence in 2011. They loved the local nougat and wanted to produce something similar using ingredients sourced in Dorset.

• After experimenting with sugar technology, trying out various recipes, and a lot of trial and error, Gavin at first made some flavoured marshmallows that were pronounced ‘fantastic’ by willing tasters from amongst family and friends, so they decided to start their own business making Gourmet Marshmellows.

• Since then the Marshmellow flavour range has been extended and includes fruit flavours, chilli varieties, and now some chocolate covered versions. We are passionate about using only real flavour ingredients in our Marshmellows, and there are no artificial colours or preservatives either. (eg We use a high cacao chocolate and melt it into our chocolate range, brew coffee for our Cappucino Marshmellows, Gavin zests and juices lemons for our Lemon Marshmellows.)The aim is to keep the product as local as possible– all the soft fruit we use is sourced locally, eg from ‘pick-your-own farms.

• After about a year Gavin went back to the original nougat idea, and they now also make 10 varieties of nougat, using Dorset honey and a variety of other ingredients, including salted peanuts, sour cherries, and, in our unusual New World Nougat, papaya, pumpkin seeds and rum-soaked cocoa nibs!

• They are continually looking at new flavour ideas – our most recent has been Vanilla Marshmellows coated in Toasted Coconut

• They sell their Marshmellows mainly at Food Festivals, and we really enjoy meeting people and chatting with them about our products and their ideas for new flavours. They can also be bought online from the website http://www.missmarshmellow.co.uk

• In 2013 Miss Marshmellow were delighted to be chosen by Theo Paphitis, from Dragon’s Den, for one of his Small Business Sunday Awards, which has helped to raise our profile and enabled us to make many helpful contacts.
