Beauty gift guide: Oral B genius 9000

Published November 27, 2017 by Bizzimummy

I purchased my first Oral B toothbrush several years ago and have never gone back to a manual brush since. Since using Oral B, my overall dental health has improved greatly. Now all four of us all have our own Oral B electric toothbrushes and that’s all we intend to use.

There are many Oral B electric brushes to choose from. These range from the more basic and less expensive to the more powerful costing a few hundred. Each one does a great job it just depends which one suits.

I am now using the new Oral B 9000

This seems to be one of the higher end models and it’s easy to see why when you read all the specifications and what this brush does.

In the box, comes the brush in a choice of white or sleek shiny black design, you get the basic white two pin charger which if you don’t have a razor port you’ll need an adaptor. There’s also the black case which has its own special charger. A brush head holder, four brush heads and a mobile phone holder with mirror suction. So a fair few bits for one brush.

I do prefer the black design on this, as opposed to the usual standard white brushes. I find the white ones attract more stains which make the brushes look dirty. The compact hard tough case also protects the brush from dirt and airborne nasties.

This charging case even comes with a usb charging port too. Meaning phones can be charged at the same time as the brush.

The brush has more than one brushing function. The down arrow button is used to activate each one. A normal clean does not need to be activated  this is standard. The button functions are – pro clean, sensitive, 3D white, Gum Care and Tongue clean.

This brush is also Bluetooth enabled and connects to a free app. The app is really good. It tells me how good I’m brushing and how much of my mouth I’m covering etc, also if I press too hard. It provides lots of useful tips too.

The instructions suggest attaching the phone holder to a bathroom mirror via the suction cups.

I haven’t done this with my phone because my mirror is just too close to my toilet and I have visions of it coming loose and bye bye phone! So I just position mine elsewhere and it still works fine.

The app even allows me to change the colour of the lights on the brush, from white to any colour of my choosing. Izebella insisted I had to have bright pink so that’s what it is. My brush came fully charged ready to use and charging is quick compared to other brushes tho I do wish Oral B would include charging adaptorsd and we aren’t all lucky enough to have bathroom charge ports.

Now the price of this one varies greatly across stores. The RRP is a huge £280 but Boots are currently selling for just £99 and Amazon £89.00. I’m not sure those low prices will last so it’s best to buy before they go.

UltraDex

Published July 20, 2017 by Bizzimummy

When it comes to choosing dental care products for myself, I find it quite difficult. For a start I really do not like the mint flavours. Mint is one of those tastes that I just don't like and especially not stronger minty tastes. I also have slight sensitivity and get paranoid about bad breath.

I had my doubts about the claim of Ultra Dex products as the daily rinse mouthwash claims to give 12 hours fresh breath.

Usually I find most mouthwashes give half an hour until those nasty mouth tastes start coming back.

The mouthwash contains a new IQ+ ActiveOxi technology which is proven to eliminate bad breath compounds.

What makes this mouthwash even better is that it comes unflavoured and therefore no strong minty tastes. There is an optional satchet of mint flavouring that can be added to the bottle if you wish but this won't be going on mine. There is a slight flavour to it, unsure how to describe it but for me it's much better than anything minty.

So I've been using the mouthwash over a week now. I'm very surprised at how effective it seems at really eliminating bad breath and bad tastes in my mouth. It really does last much longer than other similar products. I'm not sure if it's 12 hours because that's a long period to keep track of, but I do find that I only need one rinse per day, followed by another rinse at night time before bed. Even after eating, my mouth still tastes fine.

The mouth rinse comes in 4 sizes 100ml – 1000ml starting at £3.25. It really is worth giving this a go, now I've found this I won't be going back to any others.

UltraDex also have a low abrasion toothpaste too,
This does have a slight mint flavour but it's not too strong or overpowering so my palette can handle this one. It's more gentle than other toothpastes and the low abrasiveness means it won't remove any tooth protection. This also gives the 12 hour bad breath protection. The price for a 75ml tube is £6.15.

And for on the go breath freshness when out and about or travelling is a Fresh breath oral spray.

This is a quick giz breath freshener,a slight minty taste again but nothing too strong for me. This is great for taking to work or interviews and costs just £3.50.

UltraDex products can be found in Boots, Sainsbury's and Amazon.

Oral B for kids

Published April 19, 2017 by Bizzimummy

After all those chocolate eggs and other Easter treats, it is slightly worrying that my kids teeth have been exposed to so much sugar, much more than what they would normally have. It was certainly time to try out some new and more powerful toothbrushes to give their teeth a proper “spring” clean.

Oral B are the first thing that come to mind when thinking of electric toothbrushes. I have been using their products for a few years now and have not been disappointed.   They now have a new selection of character rechargeable toothbrushes for children.

These are the Oral B stages power kids toothbrushes. Ryan already has a pretty good Oral B brush so Izebella and Jordanna were able to also have an Oral B too. Both of the brushes came with toothpaste and chargers.

The toothbrush heads are specially designed for kids whilst still giving a much more intense clean compared to manual brushes. Izebella said it tickled her mouth when she first used it and both girls prefer there new brushes.

The brushes even have a 2 minute timer function which is the recommended amount of time to brush teeth. The rotating/oscillating feature removes the need to “scrub” the teeth roughly side to side as we would with a manual or cheap battery brush. This was the slightly confising bit as my girls were still fastly brushing their teeth as they did before. The reason we brush so differently with these brushes is because the rotating brush head does the work for us. All we have to do is put the brush onto our teeth and gently move to the next tooth for a few seconds and the brush head cleans for us, no scrubbing and less risk of damage to our mouths.

Brush heads need changing every few months, just like a manual toothbrush would. Packs of replacement brush heads can usually be purchased at the same place that sold the toothbrush and also stores such as Boots. Any of the kids stages brush heads are compatible meaning the characters can be changed as they only really appear on the changeable toothbrush heads.

Unfortunately my kids have had a few dental problems. Ryan had to have a few teeth removed and Jordanna has one bad one which did cause a few problems. I am hoping that the new brushes help to minimise dental problems from now on as we won’t be going back to manual or battery brushes now we have these.

The only problem I have with Oral B brushes is the charger they come with. This is a 2 pin razor plug charger and I don’t know of anyone who has one of these razor charge sockets in their homes. Luckily I do have an adaptor for these chargers and they can be bought for a pound but I just don’t get why Oral B use these chargers or why an adaptor is not included with it. When I first saw one of these chargers I actually thought it was a foreign plug. Therefore if you intend to buy an Oral B toothbrush and don’t have a razor socket then you will need to buy an adaptor. Once charged the brush will last anything up to a week on one charge.

The kids brushes cost about £20 each.
