Sleek Make-Up

Published August 2, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Well I think by now, most of my readers know how much I love my beauty bits and make up. Today I have two products from Sleek Make up. Both of these products can be purchased in stores such as Boots and Superdrug.

My first product is the Distorted Dreams highlighting palette. I have really become quite addicted to the whole new contouring conception and a palette like this one is a much needed item for my make up bag.

Facial contouring is all about enhancing your best bits, usually the cheekbones, slimming the face and tricking the eye by enhancing and adding reflection etc. Contouring and highlighting are best started after applying a base foundation. There is no set way on how to contour and highlight your face, everyone’s facial shape is different and there is lots of information on the internet on which way works best for each facial shape.

This particular highlighting palette contains five individual segments of colour.

These colours being – Anodize, Beam, Sweet delusion, Refraced and Blurred lights. This is a little confusing so I’ll just call them bronze, blush, highlight, blue and green as I’ve no idea which one is which. The colours are also a mix of powders and creams.
My face is like a heart shape, larger forehead and smaller features at the bottom. The first colour I always use in a palette such as this is the bronze colour or brown. Add the blush and then the light highlight colour. This diagram shows pretty much where I’d normally apply these colours with either a make up sponge or a brush.

So by following a picture such as this with the colours, I can easily enhance my cheek bones whilst slimming down my forehead with the bronze colour. The lighter colours of course attract more light on the face. These colours together also act as concealer to hide away imperfections.

Now of course I don’t just apply the make up like this and leave it like that. I’d be walking round like a clown if I did! No the idea is to apply correctly and blend in carefully.

My face shape seems to be more oval after contouring and highlighting but it’s really just a good inexpensive cosmetic trick, and yes it does wonders for those cheekbones too.
Now I haven’t forgot, there are two other colours in this palette, and I’m fairly new to adding other colour shades than the usual three. It may sound a strange idea adding green and purple shades to anywhere but the eyes but again these colours do come in very useful to give the perfect contoured look.
The green shade is good for areas of rosy complexion as it neutralises the skin tone. So if cheeks are too red or patches of redness then a little of the green may help. The purple shades actually help to banish dull and yellow areas, think under eyes!
The five colours work together so well, being a blend of creams and powders together and also really shimmery meaning the light will reflect all the right places on the face.
It’s like having five products in one and only costs £10.99. It even comes with a handy mirror too.

And for my lips I have this Matte Me Metallic lip cream.

This one costs just £4.99 and available in 3 luminous shades. It gives a metallic foil like finish. This colour is Rusted Rose. It goes on like a deep lilac colour which I find very pretty. In fact it just happens to be a similar shade to some interior paint I recently bought.

I’m wearing this lip cream in the top photograph above too, it seems to work really well with the palette too.
I think this make up is amazingly priced and great quality too.

Palmer’s Cocoa butter formula facial skin care range

Published July 26, 2017 by Bizzimummy

My latest skin care products come from Palmer’s. Their range of facial and skin care products come made with rich quality Cocoa butter sourced from Ghana.

You may have spotted mentions of cocoa butter in previous posts, that’s because cocoa butter is also a main ingredient in many chocolate products too. It is a rich vegetable fat extracted from the cocoa bean which grow in the cocoa pods of the cacao tree. At maturity, pods are harvested from the trunks and branches and are separated by colours that correspond to the quality of the bean; those with poorer (less) aromas and flavours may be used for industrial chocolate, while the higher quality beans are used in Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula.

Here I have several lovely products from Palmer’s, all of which are beneficial to the face and have been forming part of my daily skin care routine for almost two weeks. I do love trying out new products to see which works the best.

The exfoliating facial scrub is one of those darker grainy type products which almost resembles a light mud mask in colour and texture. It smells really natural with slight woody hints but nothing artificial.

There’s a purifying enzyme mask too which is good to use after the exfoliater. This is a 10 minute wash off face mask. It comes out as a white thick cream and eventually dries into the skin without stickiness before washing off.

Using the exfoliater and the mask together helps remove any dead skin particles leaving the new skin underneath smooth and fresh.

Their Facial cleansing oil doubles up as a cleansing wash and make up remover. I use it instead of soap as it’s much gentler, more natural and does not leave that irritating scratched feeling like some soaps do. It also removes all traces of make up including stubborn bits of eye liner.

For moisturising there is the moisture rich night cream.

This is lovely. Very cool, quick drying and just perfect for applying after a tiring day before nodding off to sleep.

Finally the multi-effect perfecting facial oil. This can be used alone, adding directly to the face using the bottle dropper and blending in; or together with the night cream as they both work well together after cleansing.

There are of course lots of other skin and beauty products available, all of which can be viewed on Palmer’s website. The good thing about Palmer’s products is that they are fairly inexpensive compared to similar skin care creams. The majority being under £10. These products are available in Superdrug stores and Feel Unique.

Beauty treats: [M]botanicals beauty balm

Published May 18, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Today is a little pot of gold; literally. It is the hydrating beauty balm from [M]botanicals.

These are not the sort of products I would find in a supermarket or every day beauty store. The packaging whilst fairly simplistic speaks for the product inside. It looks expensive, it also looks very old fashioned and the type of thing found in a botanical factory. No gimmicks on the label and no big promises. The product inside is all natural.

And yes it’s gold!

This does look like a product made with honey or from bees but it’s actually made with olive wax and coconut butter with an infusion of various essential oils. These oils include rose hip, evening primrose and borage.

It’s a solid oil type product when scooped in my fingers it feels oily, and slightly grainy. The fine grain particles obviously do a lot for exfoliating whilst the overall product doubles up as both a beauty and skin healing product.

Although it does feel a little greasy/oily when first applied, the product dries and absorbs remarkably fast leaving hardly any oily residue. It really helps with dry and itchy skin as my 9 year old daughter is finding out. It’s multiple natural properties can also help with facial lines and signs of aging and it can be used all over the body.

Now I did say before that this is not a cheap product. It does not look like one and certainly does not work like a cheap product. It costs £28.00 for a 60g pot.

Transformulas anti-aging

Published February 17, 2017 by Bizzimummy

This year I turn a big 40! Although I’m constantly told I don’t look my age, I am still conscious of the tell tale signs of aging and mainly facial lines. I’m not afraid to admit it, but last year I had one round of Botox injections to my forehead as I was getting slightly paranoid every time I looked in a mirror. The Botox procedure, although pretty much painless and very quick gets very expensive so I am always happy to give other products a go. This time it is three products from Transformulas. Whose motto is “beauty without surgery”

These three products have now become a part of my daily beauty routine. I use them together and start with the face contour and tightening cream.

This gets applied to the whole facial area apart from close to the eyes. It has a slight menthol type scent and the box gives instructions of how to apply best. From first use I could instantly feel it working. It feels like my skin is being pulled or tightened and this feeling lasts a few minutes. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable or hurt in any way and it certainly works. I could see the effects within just a few days of use.
For my eyes, I’m using the Transformulas eye lift gel

This one is pretty much odourless and clear.

Many women suffer aging problems around the eyes first, with sagging and lines and dark rings to name just a few problems. I apply the gel all around my eyes and it feels really cool on, almost like I have cucumber on my eye. Again it gives a slight tight feeling but it’s a nice sensation.

Finally for my lips – Lip Volume!

This is probably the product I was most looking forward to using. The reason being – I have small lips. There doesn’t seem to be much volume to my lips at all and I have considered fillers but they hare very expensive and I hear quite painful too.

The lip volume has a minty menthol aroma. It goes on like lip glosss does and instantly made my lips tingle and feel cool. It can be applied before lip stick or just as a daily routine. And yes it does seem to increase the volume a little, even if only temporarily.

Apologies for the duck pout here!

I love all three products and the fact that they do make my skin feel different and tighter.

I am including a before and after picture. See if you can see the difference after two weeks of use.

Of course products that work don’t come amazingly cheap. You won’t find Transformulas in your local pound world. However all three of these products together cost less than one round of Botox which is for one area rather than three.

Contour cream – £36.95

Eye gel – £29.95

Lip volume – £29.95

So just under £100 for all three but still a lot less than the more evasive treatments and surgery.

If you want to know what’s in the transformulas products and how they work then you can find all the information and more on the Transformulas website. Products can also be purchased from the website as well as Boots and a few other places.

Spa technologies: Marine skincare range

Published August 18, 2016 by Bizzimummy

I have two products from the new Marine skincare range from Spa Technologies UK. The products are called Marine as they contain natural products derived from the ocean bed, including – seaweed, red/brown algae, and liquid oxygen. These natural marine ingredients go deep into the skin to nourish, hydrate, repair and moisturise. A full list of other active ingredients found in the products can be viewed here. All products are suitable for vegans too.

I have been testing out 2 spa products for about two weeks. Both products are recommended for use at night, prior to sleep and as part of the everyday bedtime cleansing routine. First is a Flower peel serum.

Flower peel does sound like some sort of peel off face mask but it is actually a serum.

Flower peel is an anti-inflammatory concentrate of hibiscus flower and green tea acids fortified with salicylic acid to help with problem skin. The benefits include – Gradual exfoliation without irritation, decongestant of  pores consistent with acne. Essential in treatment of rosacea. Allows basal cells to fully mature, strengthening the connective tissue matrix.

And of course, costing £25.00 a bottle I would only expect it to leave my facial skin in much better condition, which combined with the second product; it certainly does.

The aroma is a peculiar one which I could not quite put my finger on at first but I knew I had come across it before. It smells a little of fake tan and more so the gel tan type. Perhaps one of the tans I used had similar ingredients.

Being a serum it is a little oily and takes a minute or two to absorb. I use this product first after washing and then apply the second product which is the Intensive night recovery.

Again another serum type product which works well together with the flower peel.

This being a blend of aromatic essences oils enriched with 10% oxygen aids skin repair and provides powerful moisture, boosting recovery for mature and very dehydrated skin. It is  an instant pick–me-up.

It provides a natural barrier that protects and provides the skin with anti-inflammatory EFA’s, rich Butters and Antioxidant Extracts
Perfect for hot Summer days too, After being in the sun the Intensive Night Recovery will repair the skin overnight, leaving skin with an extra glow and reducing the signs of premature ageing.

The aroma for this one was not as strong as the flower peel, it has more of an oily smell to it. Again it is oily and so slightly greasy at first but eventually sinks into the skin.

I use a few drops from each bottle every night and although I am very lucky to not suffer from any skin problems in the first place, I can certainly feel a good  change in my skin texture and even tone since using them.

The products are not cheap – £35 for the night serum and £25 for the flower peel and the bottles are not huge. Therefore probably out of my price range when it comes to products such as these but certainly worth a try and would make lovely gifts too.
