VARTA – Outdoor sports comfort lantern

Published January 4, 2018 by Bizzimummy

If you have not heard of VARTA yet, then in brief, they sell gadgets such as chargers, portable power banks, torches, lights and batteries. The sort of stuff that comes in very handy when travelling, or camping or even for sports.

I have one of their outdoor lanterns. Theres a few reasons why I’m posting about this in January as opposed to pre Christmas. Firstly this is the time when many people like myself have to venture into their deep dark murky lofts to put the Christmas decorations back. Also many people start keeping fit at this time of year in time for Summer, the daylight is still minimal and so something like this may just be useful.

Of course it’s not just for Winter months but any time of the year. It’s not just for the outdoors either, it comes in handy inside too.

It comes apart for battery insertion into three pieces that all screw together. It needs 3 D type batteries which are the big chunky ones.

It has a few different lighting modes which are all accessible via the press of the main button.

The amber light is extremely bright, and I mean in your face bright! Even on the dimmer function it still remains nice and bright making it perfect for the dark outdoors.

Two quick taps of the switch turns the light to the white LED which is less brighter and more suitable as a night light.

The lamp when loaded with batteries does pack a little weight but this reflects the whole quality of the overall product. It’s certainly a tough little thing, shockproof, waterproof and pretty much breakproof being tested from a 2M drop (not by myself). Therefore it’s pretty much guaranteed to last through any terrain and any weather.

It has double carry handles at the top and can be carried around just like the traditional lanterns. Underneath is an extra hook for hanging it up.

I can’t help but love this gadget.

Prices range from £30 upwards from various sellers and more information about this lantern and other VARTA products can be found on their website.

DC Comics Wonder Woman Hero Light

Published August 3, 2017 by Bizzimummy

The lovely people at Paladone have sent me over a brand new light to brighten up my bedroom a bit.

This is just one of many lights and gadgets that Paladone have. They also have many funky products dedicated to the DC Superheros characters.

It’s an easy “use from the box” type product with the only assembly being to place the actual light inside the battery box.

It works off either batteries (not included) or a USB cable which is included. The USB cable which I prefer plugs into a standard phone charger or laptop and removes the need for constant batteries.

Now as you can see by the photograph above. This light doesn’t really look or do that much during the day time. But that all changes once it get darks!

Yes it’s quite bright, and really illuminates the room. I keep it by my bed, so when things go bump in the night and I start getting scared that the monsters have come in, I simple press the button and it scares them away. It also looks really cool and retro too. Wonder Woman television series is a bit before my time but she is still probably one of my favourite DC characters.

And if you want one of these then it’s just £19.99.

One “cheeky” little gnome

Published April 13, 2017 by Bizzimummy

As many of you probably already know by now, I absolutely love unusual and novelty items. I love quirky things for both my house and my garden. As it’s now starting to get slightly warmer I have been getting a few ornaments and plants for my garden and here is one of the latest things.

This is one cheeky gnome and comes from Nuku which is home to a big assortment of unusual gifts

The cheeky mooning gnome also doubles up as a solar light when it’s dark, meaning that the light literally does shine right out of his backside.

All I had to do when I got him was switch him on and position the little fella in a sun spot in the garden and let him absorb a few rays via his special panel.

My kids thought he was a very funny gnome indeed with Izebella shouting that he’s sticking his bum out.

Well we waited a few hours once receiving him and look what happened when it got dark!

His little backside lights up for all to see. It’s quite a bright light too considering the size of the gnome. It’s enough to light up a small flower bed and give a bit of a glow to a garden.

This picture was taken at night but with the flash on so it does not show the solar light lit up but more the glow it gives off around it.

Mooning gnome costs £18.99 and he’s perfect for any garden in need of a bit of mooning and fun. He’s bound to get many people interested and asking where they can get one.

I think gnome will be fine throughout the Spring and Summer months outside, but as with most solar lights and features; the colder weather can cause damage so he may just have to go into hibernation in the colder months.

Cloud.b: Octo Softeez

Cloud b was founded in 2002 and is the worlds leading manufacturer of children’s products and accessories that assist sleep.

This is just one of a wide range of toys and accessories.

IMG_2563
This rather cute looking little pink Octopus is known as Octo Softeez. It has arrived at the perfect time as I have just moved Izebella from cot to “big girl bed” and she is also now sharing a room with big sister rather than me. She does settle very easily at night, but it’s always nice to have a cute cuddly light up companion there at your side just incase.

IMG_2564

Cloud b bedtime toys are designed to incorporate children’s senses at night time. These senses involve sight, sound, sense and touch, which in a quiet dark room can bring about fear. The toys and accessories can help to minimise some of those nighttime fears and also help very young babies calmly drift off to the land of nod.

Izebella’s new Octopus friend helps to ease the fear of the dark. It’s also quite cuddly too with it’s 8 soft tentacles.

IMG_2565
The back of Octo Softeez head contains two easy push buttons, one is on/off and the other to manually change the colour of the lights.

IMG_2566

When switched on a colourful light display will appear on walls and ceilings. Stars, fish and bubbles can be seen and the light go through various pretty changing colours, or this can be changed manually.

Processed with Moldiv
I especially like the red colour, it’s very effective.
Here is a little video I made of the toy in action.

Although Izebella is sharing a room with Jordanna, she is on her own at weekends as Jordanna stays at her dads house. Octo Softeez makes her feel a little safer, she can focus on watching the lights change colour on her wall and point out the stars. This makes her slowly drift off to her own dream cloud.

It uses 3 AAA batteries which come already installed and if left on it will switch itself off after 45 minutes. It is completely silent, no music (which can be distracting) and no annoying motor or whirring. Just a peaceful beautiful light display which can be held and hugged.

These Octopus lights come in other colours too (not just pink) and priced at approximately £22.00. They can be used from birth. Visit Cloud b UK for more information.

Safe and secure with the new Pabobo night lights + Fabulous “COMPETITION”

Published February 11, 2015 by Bizzimummy

It's been a long time coming but I am finally sorting out Jordannas bedroom and making space for little sis Izebella to move from my room to their. I have put it off for numerous reasons, illness, time etc but now she is 2 she needs to be in her own room with Jordanna rather than mine. This is of course quite a big change and will feel strange for us both. I am slightly worried about weekends as Jordanna usually stays at her Fathers house and so Izebella will be alone. I am buying lots of little things so she will like being in the new room including a new bed and bedset.

Pabobo have also kindly sent over one of their new bedtime lights which have very recently launched. You may recognise these well known characters.

They are of course characters from the very popular Mr Men series which has been around in the form of books and all sorts of accessories for as long as I can remember. I actually remember reading the books in primary school.

Pabobo are famous for their sleep aids and fun lights and these two fun characters are one of the latest additions. Mr Perfect and Little Miss hug both appear in the Mister men and a Little Miss stories.

I was able to choose a light for Izebella. She would of been happy with either and I know their is a huge debate about gender specific toys and colours and all the pink vs blue etc, but pink happens to be her favourite colour or so she tells me and I loved the little characteristics of the Little Miss Hug too so Little Miss Hug it was.

Our little Miss hug arrived within a few days. The box was really light which is a good thing. Nothing worse than a heavy light or toy on little feet. In the box – the light, instructions and a USB charger. The light needs no batteries, another bonus it means I do not have to constantly replace them. Instead it charges off a computer or via a wall charger.

The USB lead is a little small. I can see it may be easily lost but I have quite a few of these leads for other gadgets and they are very inexpensive to buy. The instructions recommend a full charge before using to give it the best performance.

It's a cute little thing, almost reminds me of some sort of toadstool toy I once had. It has a little bow and flower in its hair and even little feet too.

The light switches on by way of a push button on the underside. One charge gives up to 11 hours of light tho I will without a doubt be switching it off once Izebella is asleep.

The clever technology insid the light is very much designed with safety in mind. This light does not get hot or even warm. It stays cool even when placed under the covers.

The best results are seen in a dark room at night time. It gives a lovely pink illuminating glow. Nothing too bright but just enough to feel safe under the civets and enough to see all the teddies that she has on her bed smiling back at her (or maybe not as I think that would scare even me!)

Izebella is used to sleeping in the dark on her own in my room. She dislikes big lights being on and often kicks up a fuss when I turn on the torch on my phone to find something when I come to bed. She likes her new Little Miss Hug light because it's not overly bright and because she can hug it and control it herself. She is able to turn it off and on as she pleases and I am hoping this helps her to settle into her new bed and new room.

Both of the new Mister Men/Little Miss lights are suitable from birth and come with an RRP of £30 each. They can be purchased in numerous stores, supermarkets and Amazon and information on where to buy Pabobo products can be found on the Pabobo Website.

Laser Pegs

Published December 12, 2014 by Bizzimummy

We have been testing out a new type of kids construction set. The Laser Peg kits are a new idea beginning in the USA. I am very sure that these kits will be extremely popular here in the UK very soon too.

What are Laser Pegs? – This here is the information that can be found over on the Laser Pegs about page

Laser Pegs® is The Original Lighted Construction Set that combines two things kids love: light and building. Each kit comes with a range of models to assemble out of Laser Pegs® and clear or colorful construction pieces. All thr parts are easy to rearrange and swap so that anyone can build their own light up creations…

Laser Pegs kits are a totally new and unique type of toy. Think construction combined with electronics or even Lego with illuminations. It's something that will appeal to many children and my kids seemed quite amazed by it all.

We have 3 kits to use and build with but there are many more to choose from. The kits themes vary around transportation and animals and it seems new kits are bought out often. The kits come with numerous possibilities with options to make more than one figure. The number of figures varies with each kit but can be anything from 4-57 different figures per box. They all follow similar instructions with each one starting with the Power Base just like this one which comes with our National Geographic Oceans Kit.

This little base is pretty much where the magic happens. This controls the illumination by press of a button. It comes with a connector tube to connect the finished model.

The rest of the kit consists of see through bricks and tubes. The instructions come as diagrams which are a little tricky to follow in parts.

Now as you may have previously read I was born without construction skills of any sort so I left the building part to Ryan who was only to happy to get on with it. Jordanna is probably a little too young to fully follow the diagram but of course the kits can be used by both boys and girls.

It starts with some connecting tubes which connect together like this.

Ryan found this first part incredibly easy and managed it no problem in minutes.

It was when he started building the big body of the Manta ray that things got a little tricky and I had to try and help. The bricks are all clear and see through which can make them tricky to see. It's probably best placing them all on a very dark surface and use a good light whilst building. One if the pictures was not too clear on which parts were needed as many of the bricks look similar. It took us a while to build it but together we got there in the end. As with any type of construction toy, if you press and push too hard it will come apart and come apart it did once or twice.

We found we did not have to wait for the finished figure to see the light show in action and can light up the figure at any point finished or not. Tho it's well worth waiting until it's built to see it in action.

This is the Manta ray and it looks very effective in the dark and especially so with our Christmas lights on at the moment with it.

The light display has several modes via button press. It will flash, flicker and stay still and then of course switch off. The power base requires batteries and I believe an adaptor can be purchased too
See our short video clip of the Laser Pegs figure in action.

Ryan seemed very happy with his new kits. He also had a car and tractor kit to complete too.

One thing I did find slightly disappointing is that the instruction sheet only gives instructions for one model. For the other models we have to go to a website to download and print out instructions. For kits with more models in I think this would be quite a lot of printing.

Well I think it's fair to say that Laser Pegs have put a nice smile on Ryan's face which is something I don't see often these days.

Once connected to a power base, each Laser Pegs® shape feeds the next to illuminate an enclosed LED so that these incredible structures light up as you build. These parts are modular and open-ended, and they can all be used with one another. Laser Pegs® unique design makes them compatible with major brand construction toys so that you can bring light into other models. Unique among kids construction toys, Laser Pegs® give the pure joy of creating with light. Laser Pegs® work with batteries or via AC adapter. Laser Pegs® are also compatible with other leading construction set brands!

Laser pegs are recommended for children and adults aged 3 and over. I probably would not buy a set for a 3 year old and I would say they are suited for a child of 8 years and above but that's just my opinion.

Laser pegs can be purchased on their website here. It's an American website but they do ship internationally. Prices vary for different kits. I have also seen a few of the kits on Amazon UK by doing a search for Laser Pegs.

Chuppi (Jordannas night time friend)

Published January 22, 2014 by Bizzimummy

Moving house can be stressful and strange for children. Jordanna in the past has been known to have nightmares and slight night terrors plus she sometimes sleepwalks and has recently had a lot of changes- first a new house with a new bedroom and also a new school.
Ryan is fine and settled in his new room well. Izebella is still in with me for now and sometimes Jordanna gets a little scared and lonely in her big room.
One day along came this funny looking character called Chuppi from a company called Mathmos.
When Chuppi arrived she looked like a strange white alien creature perched on a pod.

20140121-173602.jpg
Chuppi has arms and legs and was sat on her pod but Chuppi had no face. “Why doesn’t she have a face” asks little Jordanna? Well the reason Chuppi has no face is because Chuppi needs a special human friend to make a face for her.
So what is Chuppi and what does she do?
Chuppi is a customisable art toy aswell as being a wireless colour changing light. Chuppi comes with two sheets of stickers which Jordanna used to make Chuppis face how she wanted. The stickers include eyes, mouths and lots of other things to customise your own Chuppi.

20140121-174016.jpg
The pod Chuppi sits on as in the photograph is actually the charging base. Parents can charge Chuppi up and the red light indicates charging. Once Chuppi is charged children can use Chuppi as a very pretty night light without any batteries or plugs. The colours are very bright and give an amazing glow when the lights are out. The colours will change on their own every few seconds or can be changed by pressing the button on the underside of Chuppi.

20140121-174339.jpg
Here are some pictures I took of Chuppi before she got given her face and the amazing colours she produces.

20140121-174532.jpg
The button on the underside also acts as a timer function. When the timer is on Chuppi is set to automatically fade down after 30 minutes. If timer is not set then Chuppi will stay on for up to six hours on a full charge.
Now it’s time to see both Jordanna and Miss Chuppi in action with the lights out.

20140121-175003.jpg
Chuppi has beautiful colours and the colours all seem to blend into one another as they change giving some lovely bright glowing effects. Colours of red, pink, purple, green, yellow, blue can be seen. It can also be turned off by pressing the bottom button a few times too if not needed on. I should add that Chuppi can also be male too there are plenty of stickers included to make Chuppi your own and into whatever you want to.

20140121-175242.jpg
Chuppi costs £30. It came with charger and both a 3 pin and 2 pin adaptor. Therefore if I was going on a holiday say to Spain I could take Chuppi with me as the adaptors are interchangeable.
The Chuppi light is suitable for children of all ages as a night light but for safety reasons the included stickers should only be used by children ages over 3 years.
I am sure Chuppi will make a great night time companion for little Jordanna and maybe make her feel a little more secure in her bedroom.
To purchase your own Chuppi head to Mathmos.
Chuppi is designed by Mathmos in collaboration with brilliant Sheffield based designers TADO. Mike and Katie of TADO have worked with Nike, MTV, Puma, Adidas, Vodafone, Elle Magazine, Star Wars, McDonald’s, Microsoft’s Zune, and Kidrobot. They produce graphics, animation, web design, designer toys and customized cars.

3rd Day of Christmas Giveaway: Claessens Kids sleep moon

Published December 3, 2013 by Bizzimummy

20131115-202212.jpg
On the 3rd day of Christmas
Bizzimummy gave to thee
A kids night light
Guaranteed for a perfect sleep!

This is my 3rd Xmas give away and this time it’s a Kids Sleep Moon from Claessens Kids.

20131115-202827.jpg
The Kid Sleep moon has lots of different functions. It is firstly a night light which gives a soft glow when needed through the night. It is also a sleep teacher for younger children and an alarm clock for older children.

20131115-203033.jpg
The moon helps children to stay in bed until it’s time to get up. If the bottom sleeping bunny is lit then it means stay in bed. If the top playing awake bunny is kit it means child can get up.
Parents can set the times they wish easily by using a few buttons. The moon has a smaller attached screen which displays the time and a moon/sun display. The moon sets in the morning and the sun comes out. Then in the evening the sun sets and the moon comes out. This part is useful for older children teaching them times and again helping establish a sleep routine.
The kid’sleep moon has 3 settings for nighttime, nap and weekend, 4 choices of alarm sounds (or the choice of no alarm) and 4 levels of brightness to choose from. The kid’sleep moon helps children fall asleep with 4 different choices of lullabies.

20131115-203916.jpg
They can be purchased from Amazon and directly from kid-sleep
