Gifts for Girls: Piggy Paint

Published November 21, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Most little girls long to be like their mummies with make up, nail polish and hair products. When I was a little girl, products like this were strictly just for adults and bigger girls, there were no kids safe nail polish and I don’t recall any hair products just for little girls. Either these products did not exist, or they were too expensive or my parents just did not want to buy them. I’m thinking the first is correct and they just didn’t exist back in the early 1980s.

Well fast forward 30 or so years and they certainly exist now and don’t I know it with having little girls myself. Girls who want the make up and nail polish and great locks even at a very young age. Now I get the whole media debates about allowing young girls to wear make up and nail polish and the arguments against it, but the way I see it, is if they are at home and want their nails doing then what’s the harm? And I’d rather buy and use the child friendly safe stuff then have them sneaking in my room and using my “not so safe” products.

Piggy Paint sells both kid friendly nail polish and have their own hair care product line called Rock the Locks.

The Piggy Paint nail polish comes in so many wonderful bright colours. It’s non toxic with almost no odour. It’s a water based formula but unlike a few other kid polishes we have used, this one doesn’t peel off or wash off straight away with water.

Each bottle of nail polish costs £7.99 and they each have really funky cute names such as Brand Spank’n blue and Angel Kiss.

As well as the coloured nail polish there is even a shine top coat, basecoat & sealer and nail polish remover which also cost £7.99 each. The nail polish remove smells a little similar to the stuff I usually use but it’s free of acetone and the odour not quite as strong.

Rock the Locks is all about the hair. The products include – Shampoo & Conditioner, detangler, curl boost, textured paste, hair spray and a style gel. These products are all individually priced and again made without any harsh chemicals or nasties.

We have the curl boost costing £9.99. This acts as both a detangler and curl enhancer. Both my girls have very curly hair. Jordanna’s also being extremely thick and bushy too. Without products like this, doing their hairs in the mornings gets very stressful and sometimes with a few tears whilst trying to detangle as gently as possible. These products really help to make hair brushing much easier and enjoyable for us all.

Curl boost helps the curls to relax, so the hair looks less scraggly if that makes sense.

Piggy Paint products make perfect stocking fillers for mini princesses who love to be pampered.

Snails nail polish for stylish girls

Published October 10, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Snails Nails is a Greek brand of nail polish designed for little girls who dream of nice coloured nails. It has very recently become available in the UK; previously being sold in specific European countries.

There are over 50 different colours to choose from including glittery shades.

Unlike the real stuff, this does not contain any of the harsh chemicals, so no smell and no staining to worry about. Instead it’s a gentle formula which goes on just like nail varnish but easily washes, wipes or wears away.

Izebella had three shades of snail polish. Her favourite from the three is the copper looking shade – Twinkle dust.

The polish is easy enough to apply, it comes out at a similar consistency to real polish, it’s not at all watery or too thick and as long as Izebella keeps her hands still then there is no problems with the application.

It makes a fabulous alternative to real

nail polish: something I would never steak or applying to my 5 year olds nails. The snail polish is so much safer and risk free. Little girls are always going to want to use make up and nail polish no matter what their age. They see their mummy’s applying it, or big sister and other females and simply want to do the same.

“This product will make perfect  stocking fillers for every mini princess this year! “

As this is a new product to the UK. I don’t yet have information on which stores this can be purchased from. It is available via some sellers on Amazon and is sold through Bertoy too.

More info on Snails nails polish can be found on the Safe nails website.

Best Friends Style Lab

Published November 4, 2015 by Bizzimummy

This is the “Best friends style lab” from Interplay UK, Its a fabulous little set designed with girls and friends in mind and seems perfect for sleepovers.

I was quite impressed with it and the amount of contents inside. The Style lab is for ages 8 and over although Izebella could not resist but want to try something too.

It’s all about colour and looking glam, hair colours, nail colour, files and glitter tattoos, all of which come included in the box. Just look at how much is inside.

Jordanna  loves this sort of thing. She is always asking for things like make up and nail polish and she loves this set.

Inside the box are 50 stencils, cosmetic glitters, glue, brushes, hairlights, clips, gloves, nail varnishes, sprinkles and emery boards.

For the glitter tattoos there are 50 stencils to choose from. The tattoos are very easy to do as I found from having the first practice on Jordanna and her friend. Apply the stencil, apply glue, apply glitter and remove the stencil.

Jordanna and friends did go a little crazy with these tattoos and put them everywhere including one on her cheek which she had to instantly wash off due to school the next day. The glitter and glue wash or wipe off with a baby wipe very easily.

The nail varnishes are all solvent free and seem to be more water based as it washes off with water but still quite thick like a varnish would be. The instructions give a useful guide on kids nail art and there are nail sprinkles to add too.

Then finally the hairlights which come as circular coloured chalk which again wash out easily.

With these Jordanna can just choose a colour and rub it into her hair to add a bit of funkiness.

And no she has not brushed her hair on this. Nothing new there.

Full instructions come with this set and it costs just £19.99 which I would definitely pay if I was to purchase this as a present. Interplay also sell individual “hairlights” and “Glitter tattoo” sets which contain the same products (but more) which are in the Style Lab.

New nails

Published May 5, 2015 by Bizzimummy

Today I woke up feeling ever so slightly better. Although still feeling very down and still that awful pain in my chest and heart that just won’t go away. I tend to feel better when I’m out of the house doing something, even if it is raining and so after dropping Izebella off at nursery I took myself off to get myself pampered and had my nails done.

Before having Izebella I would get my nails done a lot but it’s not something I have had much time to do with a baby or toddler about and it does make me feel a little better treating myself for once plus it also filled what would otherwise be a very boring hour. I just find it hard to type now ha.

Pampered Princesses with the Orbeez Hand Spa

Published February 5, 2015 by Bizzimummy

Jordanna is now 7 and already asking for make up, perfume and pamper products. I have a foot spa and she will often ask to have a go, so I just knew she would love this.

IMG_2203

This is the Orbeez hand spa from Character Online. It’s designed more for girls but obviously no reason why a boy could not use it if they wished.
Inside the box is the hand spa which measures 30.5 x 9 x 25.5. It’s a bit smaller than I thought it would be which is actually a good thing as it’s easier to store. Also in the box is a 3 in 1 hand and nail care too and a large bag of Orbeez.

IMG_2189

The Orbeez are small gel balls which remind me of those small bath pearls which melt in the bath, similar size but Orbeez don’t melt.

IMG_2202

The instructions are very simple, only one sheet but I would of liked some information on what Orbeez actually are and what they do – if there are any benefits of using them or if it’s just a novelty thing. I could not find any information on this.

It is very simple, insert 4 AA batteries which are not included, fill the spa with warm water and some Orbeez and switch on.

IMG_2190

Then put hands in and it’s like a littlr massage. It vibrates and the Orbeez swirl around the hands.

IMG_2191
The spa attachment which is the green thing with the Orbeez logo acts as a mini waterfall. The water swirls around and comes through it.

IMG_2193

Whilst hands are soaking in the spa, the hand and nail tool can be used on wet soft nails to file and for cuticle care. Thus giving little hands the perfect pampering.

IMG_2194

As you can see in the photographs there are 2 hands in the spa. Izebella had to join in too. It’s important I state that the Orbeez hand spa does come with an age guide of 5 and over and also a warning of small parts for children under 36 months. Izebella is 2 and therefore too young to play with this but I was sat right beside her the whole time and she is not one for putting things into her mouth especially if I tell her not too. I just thought I had to mention that incase readers thought I was allowing my 2 year old to play with this, I’m not she just wanted to join in for a few minutes.

IMG_2192

IMG_2196

The spa contains water and spills obviously occur so it’s best to use it where there is no carpet. Kitchen or bathroom floors and maybe use a towel underneath (I’ll remember that for next time).
Once finished the water can be tipped away but the instructions on what to do with used Orbeez was not very clear. I am a little unsure whether to bin them after one use or keep and reuse? If anyone knows please let me know. I kept them for now in another bag but that may be wrong. They do get very slippy when wet and easily fall on the floor so younger children should be kept away.

Jordanna loves her new spa. I’m undecided whether to refer to this as a toy or a child’s pamper product. It falls between both I think. It’s very easy to use and small enough to store away.

Buy from Character for £19.99.

In my opinion it’s worth the £19.99 and its just the sort of thing I would consider buying Jordanna for birthdays or Christmas.

CLYPPI toenail clipper

Published July 31, 2014 by Bizzimummy

Feet aren’t a nice subject and especially not toes and toe nails. I hate my feet. I hate cutting nails. I am always scared cutting my children’s nails incase I hurt them with cheap “not so good” clippers.
When I got asked to try out the Clyppi toenail clippers I was a little unsure if it was really something I would want to use, but decided to give it a go anyway.

20140729-205329-75209932.jpg

Unlike other nail clippers, the CLYPPI feels and looks very sturdy and strong. There is a good weight to them which says to me they are top notch of the range. They are made high quality stainless steel and finished with Matt brush steel. Nothing is added to these clippers that could fall off. There are no cheap plastic parts it’s just pure steel throughout.

20140729-205646-75406419.jpg

20140729-205647-75407048.jpg

The Clyppi comes with a very useful nail file which is integrated into the lever, thus saving the hassle of trying to find a separate nail file.
The clipper is designed in a way to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand. It is vert easy to use and cuts with ease and precision. It trims the nail at an even clean length reducing the risk of cracking and splitting.

20140729-210105-75665794.jpg

Ryan has slight problems with ingrowing toenails. I am thinking this is due to his nail being cut wrongly or unevenly in the past, albeit not by me. He is therefore extremely wary about people touching his feet and toes and more so when it comes to his nails being trimmed. I was therefore a little surprised when he asked if he could use the Clyppi clippers on his nails. I sat down and showed him what to do and supervised to make sure he didn’t harm his self. As the Clyppi clippers are much better quality than anything he has used before I am hoping these may assist a little in his toenails getting better.

Although the Clyppi is designed for toenails. I don’t see any reason why they can’t be used on fingernails too.
The Clyppi toenail clipper can be purchased on Amazon for £12.47 and is eligible for free super saver delivery.
