Kids lighting from Ginger Snap & giveaway

Published June 26, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Ginger snap are a design led company specialising in unique gifts and light products. There range includes lights for kids or teenagers too, many of which come with an emoji theme like this happy little lamp.

This happy smiley lamp runs off batteries so no need for trailing cables and has a simple on/off switch. Izebella uses this at night time in her bed to help keep the monsters and robots away. It does not get hot and gives a nice bright glow so she can see but still sleep as it’s not overly  bright.

The same batteries have been in this lamp for a good few weeks now and it is used most nights for several hours. Therefore it does not use up much juice. One of these costs £25.00 and with most children and teens having a thing for emojis at the moment, it does make a good bedroom accessory.

They also have emoji lightboxes too. These are plastic display boxes which come with letters, images, numbers and light up to display messages.

They come with 65 letters, numbers, symbols and 51 emoji symbols and images all on plastic see through cards. These don’t require a mains plug or wires either but it does need 6 AA batteries.

The letters simply slot in on 3 rows and you can get up to 8 of the cards on one row. It does of course look much more effective when switched on in total darkness.

You can write whatever you wish using the included letters, such as birthday messages or even notes or just mess about with the emojis.

This light box costs £24.00. If I was to make a suggestion to improve this product then I would recommend adding some sort of a slot or pull out tray on the back so there is a space to put the many letters and cards, otherwise it means either keeping the box, or finding somewhere to store them all or them becoming lost.

And if you like the light box then maybe you could win yourself one.

Choc nibbles & win some!

Published June 19, 2017 by Bizzimummy

I’m sure most of us parents who grew up in the 1980s/90s will remember these!

The memories of coming out of school and straight into the local shop to buy a quarter of choc nibbles  for 30p with left over dinner money or (if we were lucky!) pocket money.

I loved and still love choc nibbles. If you don’t remember them, then maybe you just didn’t get out much. The best way to describe them is like a mixture of soft caramel, mixes with choc lick (another old favourite) and maybe a bit of ground biscuit and something else, then coated with chocolate and made into little sticks which taste delicious.

It’s a shame how most corner shops have changed over the years, I loved looking at all the plastic sweet jars behind shop counters frantically browsing for the choc nibs.

Although the shops may have changed and the majority of the cheap sweets in big jar memories are long gone, I am happy to say that Choc Nibbles are still around and here to stay.

You see I have discovered a place on the internet that loves those old fashioned chocolate sweets just as much as I do, it’s even called Choc nibbles. Their tasty treats aren’t available via the website but their are several stockists around the UK, including one just a few minutes away from me.

The choc nibs can be purchased as jars or in bags or from sweet shops by measure.

I never understood what exactly a quarter was, which we all would ask for as kids. A quarter of what exactly? Who knows but it was always a pretty big paper bag full.

The bags contain 250g of sweets, yes even the measurements have changed over the years.

These taste just like I remember. It is possibly the only thing that hasn’t changed about the nibbles over the years.

They also make a slightly different variety too.

These are similar in taste but appear to have been a little jazzed up with an extra shiny chocolate coating giving them a smoother and brighter appearance. Thus less cocoa powder on the hands like the original version.

They do a few other versions of chocolate nibbles too such as toffee crumble nibbles and a Jammie version too. Also original choc lick, remember the chocolate dust stuff in white paper bags, that we dipped wet fingers in and licked off? Then by the time half had gone the bag got soggy and we ended up with chocolate dust all over our white tops! Oops!!

It’s like being a kid again with all these sweets!

Oyster skincare brightening eye serum

Published June 14, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Oyster Skincare is a new premium skincare brand. Their products are a blend potent skin enhancing actives with precious mood enhancing essential oils.

One of their products is this Brightening eye serum which can be purchased for £14.99 on Amazon.

I turn a big 40 years old tomorrow and although I don’t really look my age and certainly don’t feel it; there are a few tell tale signs on my face that show some ageing. Head lines are one and darkness under my eyes is another. Others don’t really notice these things but I do when I look in a mirror.

This beauty product contains a blend of good stuff including –  Hyaluronic Acid, Co-Enzyme Q10, Pentapeptides, Green tea, cucumber, flower extracts and lots of other good stuff. Many of these ingredients have been scientifically proven to help with lines, wrinkles and other anti ageing features. Hyaluronic Acid it contains helps to smooth the skin whilst being very hydrating. Pentapeptides and Co-Enzyme Q10 are both great for anti-aging too.

The serum is a fairly thick clear liquid which looks a bit like clear gel. I apply under and around my eyes, taking care not to put any inside my actual eye. The first thing I noticed when applying the product is just how cool it felt on my eyes. It’s an instant nice cooling sensation followed by a slight tightness. It absorbs into the boxes skin within about 30 seconds with a slight stickiness which dissolves soon after.

I think it’s working a little. The dark rings are certainly fading and slightly less sagging/more tighter around the eyes.

If you want to try this yourself you can purchase via Amazon, or have a go at winning yourself one in my giveaway below.

Seventh Generation skin friendly products & Giveaway

Published June 13, 2017 by Bizzimummy

Seventh Generation began across the Atlantic in the USA and are fairly new to the UK. Their items include household products for laundry and cleaning and are designed for people with skin allergies, eczema and other skin conditions.

In our house it’s my eldest daughter Jordanna who seems to randomly suffer with an array of undiagnosed skin problems. These include general skin dryness where patches of skin will feel rough like sandpaper, various sensitivities which the rest of us seem to be immune too (i.e flea bites) and random rashes and spots that appear from time to time. We just don’t know why or what causes any of it, except that her skin appears to be sensitive to many things. I can only guess that certain types of soaps, bath products, laundry detergents and household cleaners add to her skin problems so it can often be difficult to know what to use.

The products from Seventh Generation are made without the usual harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances which can irritate skin. There are no dyes or artificial brighteners so the majority of the cleaning/laundry products will be fragrance free and colour free or clear liquids.

Their packaging is made from 100% recycled bottles making the products kinder to the environment as well as the skin.

These are the products which I have been using recently, all of which are available to buy in Tesco. I have two big laundry liquids.

Both of these do similar jobs – wash the clothes. There is not too much difference between them. They are both clear and free of dyes and fragrance. The differences being that the one on the left is super concentrated meaning I don’t need to use as much to wash clothes and it’s also much better on tougher stains such as chocolate, tomato, pizza and even blood. This one also comes in an unsusal container which looks a lot like cardboard on first glance. It’s actually repurposed fibre. This bottle can apparently be used as a plant starter once the liquid has gone.
Seventh Generation also sent me two of their household cleaning products.

Again probably not much difference between the two. The green one is an all purpose cleaner meaning I can use it pretty much anywhere. The lack of harsh chemicals make it safer, not just for skin but for my furnishings which can become stained or damaged if using incorrect products. The all purpose cleaner is fine for kitchens, bathrooms, doors, window ledges and pretty much anywhere else that needs a clean, baby items included. There is however a picture of a cooker on the front of the bottle which may be slightly misleading. This product is fine for cleaning  my hob and the cooker exterior but I don’t think it is strong enough to clean inside the oven properly. Unfortunately I still need to use the very nasty stuff for that job.

The blue cleaner on the right is more for glass products and surfaces. I have white units in my living room and a few mirrors around my home so this is a good product to get them clean and shiny without the awful cleaning smells.
My final two products are a natural washing up liquid and natural toilet cleaner.

For those of us who don’t normally suffer from sensitive skin problems (myself included) have your hands ever itched, stung or felt slightly sore or dry after washing dishes? I know mine have a few times. I actually put it down to the water being too hot or not drying them correctly but I am now fairly sure that it’s the chemicals in the washing liquids, no matter how mild that cause the slight irritation.

This natural free washing liquid does exactly the same job as all the other dish washing products and that is get the dishes clean. It still forms bubbles and still cuts through grease and tough dish and pan stains, even oven dishes. It just comes without the scent and added colour.

The toilet cleaner is one of the products that does come with a slight scent. I suppose it has to really given that part of cleaning a toilet is also making it smell good rather than of what usually goes in it (YUK). The fragrance – Cypress and Fir is made purely from essential oils and botanical extracts. It smells totally different from the usual heavy bleach toilet cleaners, it can still cause skin irritation if it gets directly onto skin (as with most products) but is much safer than most other toilet cleaners.

All of these products can be bought in Tesco. I am hoping they will bring in more of the range of products to the UK soon as the USA does have a bigger selection.

GIVEAWAY

Seventh Generation are giving away two baskets full of their products (as above) to two lucky readers. Yes you get the basket too!

L.O.L Surprise dolls + giveaway

Published May 16, 2017 by Bizzimummy

This is not the first time we have had L.O.L dolls. We received some a few weeks ago but these dolls proved to be very popular in the shops and quickly sold out. They are now back in many toy stores, if you have not heard of these dolls then keep reading.

L.O.L dolls come as a wrapped up globe shape toy. The idea is to unwrap many layers of plastic packaging, each time revealing a small toy or sticker (hidden surprises)

It’s a bit like a solo version of pass the parcel without the passing. Eventually all layers will be off to reveal the main surprise inside! The L.O.L doll.

These dolls are the new collectable craze and there are many of them to collect. On this occasion Izebella found the roller sk8r L.O.L and she comes with a dummy, outfit and roller skates.

Each one does different things, some of them drink, some change colour in water and other things. Girls will love them because there are so many to collect.

MGA Entertainment are giving away a L.O.L doll to one of my readers. To win one just click the link below. This giveaway will end on May 30th 2017

Drumond park: Dig in! Review + giveaway!

Published March 20, 2017 by Bizzimummy

This is our new game, sent to us by Drumond park.

The concept is simple, find the items that match the images on the card, the actual playing is a little more difficult.

Inside the box are 128 coloured pieces which come as all sorts of items, planes, cars, trees, keys, hats, animals to name a few plus several game cards, a game bowl and a timer.

2-4 players can play and each player begins with 15 seconds on the timer to find 6 matching pieces on their cards. The cards can be played to match the item and colour or just the item regardless of colour which is much easier. Of course it’s extremely difficult to dig through 128 pieces and find just 6 in 15 seconds; needles in haystacks springs to mind! Once each player has their 15 seconds, another 15 seconds is pressed and all players then dig in together using one hand to find more pieces. If after this time, no players have all six items then it goes into an “all in” dig round without the timer and with both hands until one player fills the card.

The main difficulties of the game are the pieces being so small and similar sized. The different colours also cause a visual distraction and even I found it hard at times to get the correct pieces. Add to this the short 15 seconds which is not long at all.

Overall it is a very simple game, minimal rules, no batteries, no dice and no playing pieces or even a board. It’s also quite fun and it does not take long to play. The winner being the one who fills 3 cards first. Of course it’s one of those games where you can bend the rules or add own twists to it etc.

There is one thing about this game that I don’t quite understand and that is the age guide recommendation that comes with it, which is 8 and over. Now I understand the dangers of small parts and playing pieces but this is more a danger for those under 3. By the age of 5/6 years the majority of children don’t put stuff in their mouths. Izebella being 4 years has bits of toys much smaller than the dig in playing pieces. She can also play Dig in without help and is more than able to find the pieces she needs to match the ones on her cards and that’s with the correct colour too. So I am slightly baffled as to why the age guide is set at 8 years.

Dig in by Drumond park has an rrp of £19.99 and should be available in most good toy stores.
