VARTA – Outdoor sports comfort lantern

Published January 4, 2018 by Bizzimummy

If you have not heard of VARTA yet, then in brief, they sell gadgets such as chargers, portable power banks, torches, lights and batteries. The sort of stuff that comes in very handy when travelling, or camping or even for sports.

I have one of their outdoor lanterns. Theres a few reasons why I’m posting about this in January as opposed to pre Christmas. Firstly this is the time when many people like myself have to venture into their deep dark murky lofts to put the Christmas decorations back. Also many people start keeping fit at this time of year in time for Summer, the daylight is still minimal and so something like this may just be useful.

Of course it’s not just for Winter months but any time of the year. It’s not just for the outdoors either, it comes in handy inside too.

It comes apart for battery insertion into three pieces that all screw together. It needs 3 D type batteries which are the big chunky ones.

It has a few different lighting modes which are all accessible via the press of the main button.

The amber light is extremely bright, and I mean in your face bright! Even on the dimmer function it still remains nice and bright making it perfect for the dark outdoors.

Two quick taps of the switch turns the light to the white LED which is less brighter and more suitable as a night light.

The lamp when loaded with batteries does pack a little weight but this reflects the whole quality of the overall product. It’s certainly a tough little thing, shockproof, waterproof and pretty much breakproof being tested from a 2M drop (not by myself). Therefore it’s pretty much guaranteed to last through any terrain and any weather.

It has double carry handles at the top and can be carried around just like the traditional lanterns. Underneath is an extra hook for hanging it up.

I can’t help but love this gadget.

Prices range from £30 upwards from various sellers and more information about this lantern and other VARTA products can be found on their website.

Trespass: Claudia Waterproof Jacket

Published May 27, 2015 by Bizzimummy

Summer is almost upon us once again and with Summer comes lots of walking, camping, hiking, a little sunshine and usually a lot of rain. Yes unfortunately the Great British weather will always be unpredictable and the “I never know what to wear” is probably one of my most famous sayings. Therefore if one is planning a long walk, hike or even a day out with the kids this Summer, then it's a good idea to invest in a lightweight good waterproof jacket for when the heavens decide to open. And it just so happens I have the perfect one.

When you think of “Outdoor wear” or “hiking gear” or even just “Waterproofs”, the first place that comes to many minds (and mine included) is Trespass. They have around 150 stores across the UK as well as their website. They have been around for years and sell pretty much everything you can think of to do with the outdoors. With it being (almost) Sunmer, their main focus at present is Summer outdoors and hiking and I was able to pick myself a pretty cool waterproof jacket. Just look at this!

This is the Claudia Women's Waterproof Jacket and forms part of the new Summer range at Trespass. I can't recall the reason I picked this one over the many others but I think it just seemed to jump out at me and call out “Pick Me, Pick Me!” but I just really really love it.

I am a fan of wearing anything white too, tho it's usually a short dress and heels at the weekend. The colour of this is actually called “Ghost” and there are 2 other colour choices of the same jacket if White isn't your thing.

Sizing starts from XXS which I think is probably a size 4 and goes up to a XXL. I chose a medium just to be on the safe side and save the hassle of needing to enchant it but I could of easily got in the smaller one too.

This is the jacket the day it arrived and still tagged. It is pretty much a ghost white colour all over with the sleeves being slightly darker. The red outline all round really makes the jacket stand out. It seems to contrast the outdoor style with everyday fashion and therefore can be worn whenever the mood takes or the rain decides to fall.

Of course Trespass coats look good but there's more to them than meets the eye. They are of course designed for the outdoors and whatever the British weather decides to throw at us from one day to the next. This jacket is therefore not short of features. The outer material is waterproof to 5000mm, breathable to 5000mvp, windproof and also has added taped seams for boosted waterproof protection. Additionally, this jacket is also mesh lined to increase comfort and enhance freshness when you are on the move. If that wasn't enough the jacket also boasts many pockets, including a water repellent zip chest pocket and 2 zipped hand pockets on the side of the jacket. The hood is cleverly hidden away behind the neck in another zipped pocket and easily pulled out and zipped away as the weather changes.

Anyway it's great to stare at it and even take photographs but nothing beats the feeling of putting on a new coat. Especially for us ladies.

And here I am (again) and yes that's a real smile on my face (a rarity these days!). It fits really well and the Medium size means there is lots of room inside. I have to say (without being vain) I do think it suits me well and I just love the colours, I even love the hood.

The day I received the jacket, I was in luck as it was actually blowing a storm outside, Rain, wind, gusts, trees swinging, the whole lot. Something I would never normally wish for but perfect for testing out a waterproof and wind proof coat, so that's what I did. I went out in the storm, wind banging, rain coming down in torrents, Wizard of Oz style weather.

Now that picture is me when I had just returned from the storm. Still half smiling and hair still in an okayish condition. Still in Bolton and not blown away to Oz or even Kansas ha!

Yes the beautiful jacket lives up to its tags and description. It kept me dry, it kept the wind from my body. I didn't feel unbelievably cold with it on but I didn't feel hot and sweaty either and it's just the same when wearing it on a warmer day too (which I have done many times since) I guess that's what it means by being “breathable” it stops sweating but keeps the body from being too cold too, which is quite impressive considering the jacket is very lightweight and seems quite thin when on. The hood is very generously sized to without being ridiculously large and it even stays up without any ties or press studs keeping it up. The wind blew but the hood seemed to stay. If going on long hikes or overnight treks then what you wear underneath a jacket such as this will obviously help in maintaining body temperature.

The pockets are a big enough size to hold an iPhone and of course keep it dry. Having a few of them reduces the need for me to take a bag on a short trip or school run as I can also pop my keys in another or money, make up or anything else and it will all keep dry and safetly zipped away.

It is certainly worth investing that little extra for a good coat such as this one. Not only does it keep me dry and pretty warm but it looks pretty good with whatever I wear too. I love it! This will certainly be coming with me on any hikes and long walks I go on this Summer.

Now for the price. It costs £49.99 directly from Trespass. This is probably what the majority of people pay for a new coat anyway or there about a so well worth it in my opinion, for style, features and practicality.

The BOB Bag

Published July 23, 2014 by Bizzimummy

BOB bag stands for Brilliant Outdoor Bag. It’s creators are Youth Sport Direct. and the bag is designed to meet the needs of parents taking kids out for fun days out.

Prior to receiving this bag I was a little sceptical as to whether it was really something I would get much use out of. I imagined it being another baby changing bag, which I no longer have much use for. This bag however is so much more than a baby change bag. It’s very useful and holds a lot.

The best way to describe the BOB bag is that it’s a maze of secret compartments and pockets all crammed into one. Every where I look there is another storage pocket or a zipper. It’s like unravelling a bag of mystery.
To look at it, it looks like any other messenger style bag, but once I opened and examined further I could not believe just how much space this bag has.

20140718-190937-68977142.jpg

The bag comes in a smart navy blue colour and then there is a colour choice of lining, either orange or pink (I got pink yay!). There is an adjustable padded shoulder strap and even the strap has it’s own little pocket (that’s before you start looking at the actual bag)

20140718-191208-69128685.jpg
As well as the shoulder strap there are 2 other straps on the bag. These are for hanging the bag over buggy handles. This gives the bag that bit of extra security as it’s much more difficult for a thief to take the bag with 3 straps attached.

The front of the bag has a lift up flap which fastens to the bag via a clever magnet. Lift this flap up and that’s where the fun begins finding all the hidden pockets.
First the flap itself boasts a small zipper pocket, great for a phone I guess.

20140718-191546-69346628.jpg

The flap lifts up to reveal 3 pouches/pockets which all fasten via Velcro. Again these would easily hold phones or pens, keys, or anything you like really.

20140718-191834-69514426.jpg

Behind these 3 pouches is a huge secret zipped pocket which would make a great place to store a tablet, or nappies, drawing pads, books etc. This pocket is the whole diameter of the bag and it’s hidden pretty well.

20140718-192023-69623974.jpg

One side of the bag boasts what I would call a bottle pocket. The ones you find on changing bags. These also hold Sippy cups and small bottles of juice and pop too.

20140718-192151-69711413.jpg

Turn the bag over to the bag and more compartments await thee. A net mesh padded panel is the first thing to be seen. Behind this panel are 2 “grab and go” pockets. These pockets are deep but open and not secured with anything. They are best for wipes, sweets and things you need instant access to rather than valuables.

20140718-192503-69903240.jpg

Behind this a further surprise with another large pocket similar to the one at the front. This pocket has 2 mesh inserts inside it, both which fasten with Velcro. I can see these mesh pockets being great for kiddy snacks, rubbish (if I can’t find a bin), wet items or even make up.

20140718-192839-70119485.jpg

Now onto the main compartment of the bag. This is accessible via zip. Again there are 2 fairly good size mesh pockets. Also a zip compartment and a small changing mat which can be taken out if not required.

20140718-193218-70338347.jpg

20140718-193217-70337744.jpg
There is even a key attachment fob thing for clipping keys onto so you know they are secure. Plus it saves rooting through the bag and tipping them out trying to find them.

20140718-193330-70410555.jpg

The bag is amazing. Like a bag of hidden treasures. Secret pockets everywhere to secure those precious items and plenty of room to carry around kiddy junk.
Of course if you are pregnant or have a young baby it would make a perfect baby bag too which could be kept and used for many years. Plenty of space for nappies, bottles and all baby items. I am so glad Izebella is now passed the bottle stage.

The fun does not end there tho as with the bags come Activity packs

20140718-193611-70571468.jpg
There are 5 different activity packs to choose from. The Go-Go Pack, Move-it Pack, Sport-ie Pack, Play on or Swim-in Pack.
The pack came fitted in the bag so you can get an idea at just how much the bag holds. It’s in it’s own drawstring bag and contained all these great sports items.

20140718-194114-70874934.jpg

A Phlat ball which starts as a throwing disc and changes into a ball when thrown.
Frisbee disc Ryan loves this
Skipping ropes and some elastic coloured band things. As yet I am not too sure what these are or how they are used but I am sure I will find out soon.
The other activity packs will contain different items and all the packs come with different age suitability guides.

The price of this fabulous bag is £45.95 and the activity pack is included which is worth £13.30 by itself.

It’s a great bag with so many features and little hiding places. Perfect for our long trips out during the Summer holidays and weekends away. My only worry is that with so many pockets I may just forget which one I have put something in.

The bag can be purchased from Youth Sports Direct and will be shipped within 3-5 days.
